Obama Was Briefed On Russian Hacking But Did Nothing
Weekly Standard ^ | 3:45 PM, DEC 13, 2016 | By MICHAEL WARREN

In the extensive report on the massive Russian-backed operation to hack American political and government severs—including a successful hack of the Democratic National Committee's server—the paper reveals that President Barack Obama had been "briefed regularly" on Russia's effort to target servers at the State Department, the White House, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Here's the Times:

Mr. Obama was briefed regularly on all this, but he made a decision that many in the White House now regret: He did not name Russians publicly, or issue sanctions. There was always a reason: fear of escalating a cyberwar, and concern that the United States needed Russia's cooperation in negotiations over Syria.

"We'd have all these circular meetings," one senior State Department official said, "in which everyone agreed you had to push back at the Russians and push back hard. But it didn't happen."

So the Russians escalated again — breaking into systems not just for espionage, but to publish or broadcast what they found, known as "doxing" in the cyberworld.

It was a brazen change in tactics, moving the Russians from espionage to influence operations. In February, 2014 they broadcast an intercepted phone call between Victoria Nuland, the assistant secretary of state who handles Russian affairs and has a contentious relationship with Mr. Putin, and Geoffrey Pyatt, the United States ambassador to Ukraine. Ms. Nuland was heard describing a little-known American effort to broker a deal in Ukraine, then in political turmoil.

Fake News Logic:

Given: According to reliable sources in the Intelligence Community as well as the NYT and WP, the Russians hack U.S. government and U.S. political targets.

Conclusion 1: Russia is the source of the DNC and John Podesta Wikileaks documents.

Conclusion 2: Russia released these documents to help elect Donald Trump.

Conclusion 3: Donald Trump is not the winner of a legitimate election and therefore cannot become President of the Untied States.

Conclusion 4: Hillary Clinton, the clear winner of the popular vote in the 2016 election, should become the next President of the United States in order to maintain the legitimacy of the electoral process.

Nice read, r/c/g.......hits all the high points.

Assange dropped DNC emails exposing the racism, the hate and the lies within the DNC. 10 Democrat officials have resigned over these, to date, including the DNC head AND her replacement.

(a) Chairman Debbie was outed as a tool of Hillary, and, (b) Donna Brazile soon exited the chair, b/c her position at CNN gave her access to debate questions ....so she stupidly blabbed she tipped off Hillary in advance of the debate.

Too bad the Royal Idiot doesn't realize what a jerk he looks like. Obama looks like the fall guy here......the janitor mopping up the mess of Hillary's decrepit campaign.

The leaks indicted the Democrat apparat.

That's the thing they're fuming about---being outed.

The shamed Dems take on a Sisyphian task to restore credibility----but its not going to work.

IT’S NOT A HACK. IT’S A LEAK!

Can someone please tell me why it is ok to leak a privately recorded conversation Trump had years ago and release it without his consent but it’s not ok to leak private DNC emails?

Is it possible ISIS is behind the pussygate tape release? I’m pretty sure someone knows someone that heard an ISIS operative is behind it.

“At this point what difference does it make?”

"...concern that the United States needed Russia's cooperation in negotiations over Syria."

Someone refresh my memory, all that negotiation with Russia over Syria accomplished exactly what? Other than burning a lot of jet fuel.

I thought so.

I guess those daily intelligence briefings are not so good, or Obama is a dimwit... probably both.

Makes perfect sense. They had numerous meetings about how to propagate the lie that Russia had hacked America, and use that to explain Trump’s imminent win. Each time the subject of taking overt action against Russia to give the scam more credibility, they concluded it would not be worth doing, because the bear, he bite. So they decided to go with the bald assertion and keep making it, in the spirit of Joseph Goebbels, who like Barry had no balls at all.

Oh P-l-e-a-s-e for America's sake, stop with this. Of course the president was briefed, and there were probably dozens of countermeasures in effect and being implemented before they could even finish a phone call to him.

Now that we have established that the president didn't do anything, it was not his job but rather the job of people like myself and numerous layers of other people.

2-1 odds that any intrusion went thru a DISA cloud, and before it hit the government "intra" of the internet it was picked up by AT&T and any number of router monitoring and sites.

Again, any packets of information on the internet are sorted and processed for content. Any hacking of government workstations is usually the work of a USB or opening an email; I could tell you stories but won't.

How about how his government spies and hacks ‘we the people’ day in and day out? His government spends more time peeping into American citizens lives than the Russians.

EVERYTHING obama does either:
a) Weakens America/Americans
b) Distances America's allies
c) Strengthens America's enemies
d) Attacks Christianity
e) Serves islam
f) Harms Israel
Or some combination of the above.
There are NO counter examples.

This is c)...
