Collagen Hydrolysate is a powder that is processed from beef, similar to gelatin. Only gelatin will get thick when mixed with liquid while collagen just dissolves (it mixes well in cold or hot liquid). You don’t want to substitute gelatin powder for collagen in your coffee or you will have a clumpy mess.
Collagen hydrolysate is very good for your metabolism, and for building the connective tissue in in your hair, skin, nails, and joints. I buy it on Amazon but you can get it at GNC or probably health food or drug stores.

Did you actually notice any benefit to your hair and skin; and are there any side-effects like digestive issues?

I’ve got a lot of back trouble that messes with sleep, and am interested in this; but I’ve also read reviews that suggested it was good for hair, skin, nails.
