FBI, CIA 'not on same page' about Russia’s role in US election
PressTV ^

The CIA and the FBI appear to be divided in their assessment of whether Russia intervened in the 2016 election to help Republican Donald Trump clinch the White House, according to a report. The Central Intelligence Agency has concluded that Russia was actively trying to help elect Trump as opposed to just “meddling with” the election process, according to The Washington Post.

During a closed-door briefing at the Senate Intelligence Committee early this month, the spy agency presented its assessment of Russia’s role in the election. Citing unnamed US officials briefed on the matter, The Post said individuals connected to Moscow had provided thousands of hacked emails from the Democratic National Committee and others to WikiLeaks.

The hacked emails were a regular source of embarrassment to the campaign of Democrat Hillary Clinton during the presidential race.

“Russia’s goal here was to favor one candidate over the other, to help Trump get elected,” said a senior US official briefed on the intelligence presentation made to key senators. “That’s the consensus view.” In a secure meeting room under the Capitol last week, however, a senior FBI counterintelligence official told lawmakers that the agency and the bureau were not on the same page regarding Russia’s alleged intervention. The FBI official’s remarks to the lawmakers in the House Intelligence Committee, who had a classified letter written by the senators summing up the secret CIA assessment, were “fuzzy” and “ambiguous,” The Post said. The divergent messages from the CIA and the FBI have angered many lawmakers who are demanding answers about the Kremlin’s alleged role in the presidential race and its possible motives.

The clamor from Congress prompted the White House to announce Friday that President Barack Obama had ordered a full review of Russia’s cyber attacks during the presidential campaign. Obama wants the review to be completed before he leaves office in January. Meanwhile, Trump’s transition team slammed the CIA on Friday over its assessment of Russian espionage operations targeting the 2016 race.

"These are the same people that said Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction," the transition said in a statement on Friday. "The election ended a long time ago in one of the biggest Electoral College victories in history. It's now time to move on and 'Make America Great Again.'"

The Clinton campaign has blamed FBI Director James Comey for the candidate’s bruising loss to Trump as the bureau dropped a bombshell letter days before the election on the discovery of new emails potentially related to an investigation into Clinton’s email practices.

The FBI has already been burned trying to save Clintoonie’s ass. They won’t be fooled again.

They weren't fooled in the first place. They knew what they were doing, and all the 'good guys' who stayed silent were perfectly willing to let the crook become president.

Exactly. Why is no one concerned about the unethical behavior that was exposed by the leaks? Shiny object. :(

“We’ll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false.”

This quote is from William Casey, CIA director under Reagan, but I’m sure the sentiment is shared by Brennan.

There are good people at the CIA, and we probably saw evidence of their good work in wiki leaks. However, leadership of the CIA has been seriously flawed for a long time (remember, papa Bush was the CIA director in 76-77). The first thing is that the CIA needs to get out of the propaganda business targeting the American public. I believe that the 2013 NDAA act contained a provision that reversed previous acts in 1948 and 1985 that prohibited government propaganda activities targeting the US public. The “fake news” meme campaign is hypocrisy and projection by the globalist media to the extreme. Do we believe the Clinton-0bama Benghazi video cover story, or anything out of a mouth from “reporter under fire during combat” otherwise known as the lyin’ NBC media pimp Brian Williams? Unfortunately ,Congress is going in the wrong direction with respect to free speech by passing 6393 which takes action against so called fake news sites.
I hope Trump can make some progress here although we know this will be tough sledding.

Thanks for the post. I am still amazed at the ridiculous claim that the Russians (Putin) tried to influence US voters’ selection.

First, there would need to be a motive.
Second, they would have planned a more sophisticated method than the random exposure of Wikileaks’ obtained emails.
Third, the Russians would have preferred an Obama 3rd term where the US would continue to be weakened and impotent in World leadership.
Fourth, if the Russians really had a plan to control the election; they would have corrupted the voting machines, the vote count and a host of other subversive acts.

The Russians are not second graders when it comes to planning diabolical subversion.

The CIA is a criminal drug running, mafia hit man, agent provocateur globalist fascist old boy criminal enterprise. Its duties and functions should be handed over to the Pentagon.

There you have it, sports fans. The Russians "hacked" our election by exposing the truth of a criminal enterprise operating as a political party within These United States. They scammed us with the truth!!!

In a world where the sky is blue, this would be deemed an inestimable service to the Republic and would be lauded with high praise. Yes, the Russians were acting in their own self interests - it would be foolhardy to think otherwise. But isn't this a geopolitical win-win situation? Do not we share common enemies and common interests. Is this a gift beyond price?

I swear this election is looking more and more like a rewrite of Clancy's Executive Decisions with real-life players who have significantly more clay on their feet than the fictional Jack Ryan. But you must admit there are plenty of parallels to be found.

During the DOJ “investigation” of Clinton’s classified e-mails, the CIA and FBI repeatedly assured the American people that our secrets had not been compromised by any foreign power. How Wilileaks got them was anyone’s guess, but there was no evidence of hacking by any foreign government.

Clinton is then “cleared”. Suddenly, the Wiki e-mails are a result of hacking by the Russians, who, for unknown reasons, want Trump to win.

So...which is it? Did the Russians hack these e-mails, and thus get access to our secrets, or are they not involved, and our secrets safe?

I disagree about the 'good guys' Ken and here's why...someone at FBI forced Comey to send that letter to Congress about new evidence in the Clinton email case, Comey wouldn't have done that otherwise.

Isn’t the head of the CIA a Muslim convert?

No wonder we were funding ISIS and Hillary and Podesta were taking tens of millions from Qatar and Saudi Arabia while Wikileaks revealed the two KNEW that those countries backed ISIS.

Benghazi was allowed to destroy the evidence and kill those in the know. Hillary was supplying arms to ISIS for $$$$$.

I don't think the CPUSA ran their own candidate for POTUS this year, but endorsed H->!

That clears things up for me.

So what? They remained silent after Comey then 'cleared' her. They were prepared to sit on what they knew and allow Crooked Hillary into the White House.

The CIA's charter has never been transparency.

In fact they have been a gov't directed/autonomous rogue operations nexus for decades and decades. Who would believe ANYTHING the CIA has to leak?
