Exxon’s Rex Tillerson Is Top Candidate for Secretary of State
Wall Street Journal ^

Posted on 12/09/2016 3:41:37 PM PST by springwater13

Exxon Mobil Corp. Chief Executive Rex Tillerson has emerged as the leading candidate to become President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for secretary of state, according to two transition officials, marking the latest twist in a multiweek search for a top diplomat.

Mr. Tillerson moved ahead of other candidates, including 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who have had multiple conversations with Mr. Trump about the job. Mr. Tillerson is viewed by some of Mr. Trump’s advisers as a mold-breaking pick who would bring an executive’s experience to the diplomatic role, said a person involved in the process.

Messrs. Trump and Tillerson met on Tuesday and are expected to speak again over the weekend, the person said. Mr. Trump has said he would like to make a formal announcement about his State Department pick about his pick next week.

Mr. Trump said in a statement on Friday that former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani had taken himself out of the running for the diplomatic job and other administration posts late last month.

Seems like someone who would get the job done. The job of carrying out Trumps world view diplomacy. Kinda reminds me of Fred Thompson character in “Hunt for Red October”.
I bet you’ll never see him riding a tour de force bike and faking and breaking his leg, hobbling around the globe on crutches.
Rex seems like the fella who accidentally gets shot at the hunting camp on a Saturday and shows up to work on Monday with a duct tape bandage over it. Hahahha

Eagle Scout, civil engineering degree. Didn’t grow up with money.
Hell, why not?
I like Bolton, but Trump wants someone to advance his ideas. Bolton seems to have his own, unyielding world view. Which is ok..if he had been elected president.
Maybe to save money Trump will say he’s eliminating the position and all world leaders will be dealing “with the man now!” Lol

Bolton understands things that Trump doesn’t.

He’s been in the trenches for a long time.

I would rather see someone like Bolton who has experience dealing with other heads of State AND would clean out the infestation inside the State Dept. Sorry but I don’t see a CEO of ExxonMobil doing that.

And the State Dept. definitely needs to be cleared out.

I’m not saying Bolton is a bad choice. Im just not positive his personality is ideal for working with Donald. I’ve noticed none of the very loyal, but very strong characters who’ve been with him all along (Giuliani, Christie, Newt) have been given a cabinet nomination.
Defense and DHS nominees are good soldiers, they’re used to answering to others.
If he picks Bolton I’ll be fine with it.
Tilleson just seems to be an intriguing outsider who seems to be a smart fella who could possibly help us make some solid, strategic, diplomatic deals in regards to fossil fuels and the inevitable pressure from our allies that hate them.
Whichever way he goes, hopefully we will know soon who it’s gonna be.

***I was reading on Rush’s website***

Why does anyone care what that man thinks? Do you not remember that he was against Trump being elected? He is covered in the stench that is GOPe.

Please people think for yourselves. You don’t need Rush or anyone else to help you form your own opinion.

Don’t know much about him. Nonetheless, hope not. Exxon has deep ties with the all the unsavory nations that we frequently have disputes with.

They had more fights than just the one in 1969. Skirmishes and even limited battles reportedly continued well into the 1980s though both sides publicly denied such things were taking place.

And yes, China *will* go north at some point soon in search of resources - and to utilize the Big Lie with the Russians as the target, all to distract from their massive internal problems.

Trump is going a bridge too far if he puts a career corporate guy in charge of State.

Agree. Missing a hell of a chance with Bolton IMHO. Bolton knows how to toe the mark with these dictator regimes and communist countries He will work with Trump as his #2 man to achieve great things overseas not screw the pooch as did the unmentioned scank.

What I would like to know why is Trump even considering Romney. A "bridge to far" really comes to mind if Romney is slapped on the butt for SoS. There could not be a worse choice.

But, hey I just got my "campaign promise list" here and will keep it up to date to see how this all turns out.

Nothing against Tillotson but we were told Ryan and Romney were also solid conservatives along with MCCain, Flake, etc.

Good point. Another name comes to mind but I will hold judgement on that for a while.

I will just keep my "promise list" up to date.

That would be too bad if Bolton declined to be Deputy Secretary. Don’t recall who, but someone on FNC or FBC said in the past few days that they thought Tillerson would be an excellent choice for SoS as he knows and has worked with so many world leaders, including Russia and the ME. The SoS basically flies around the world and diplomatically meets with various heads of state, etc. The person went on to say that Bolton would be great as Deputy SoS as he knows the department in and out and would essentially be the one running it inside DC, could do reorgs, firing, make policies, etc.

“Rush was talking about him today. Said he was a solid conservative.”

Except when it pertains to sodomites taking over the Boy Scouts of America. And CommonCore. I know these positions have nothing to do with energy, but just the same, he’s not a social conservative.

Gay rights

Tillerson served as president of the Boy Scouts of America from 2010-2012, at the time that the delegates voted to openly gay youths to join their troops and earn their merit badges. After the vote took place, Tillerson led the Boy Scouts to implement the change.

In September 2013, Tillerson wrote an op-ed piece in The Wall Street Journal defending Common Core.

Tillerson is a RINO globalist of the first degree.

Exactly. And this guy is sitting on $150 million in Exxon stock. Too many potential conflicts of interest. No thanks.
