Yeesh, only a knife? “Only a knife” can kill you faster than you can draw a pistol, if the person is within 21 feet of you.
It’s not excessive force to respond to deadly force with deadly force. That is called “commensurate force”.
If you don’t know these things, then you are ignorant on the topic that you are opining about.

How many other students “surrounding the area” were hit by any bullets fired by the police officer?!?
Where I work, we have to have a lethal force option available if a non-lethal/less lethal force is deployed.
Fact of the matter, very simply, I have seen situations where a taser was ineffective. I have also situations where pepperball was ineffective.
In training, I have seen a subject with a rubber knife stab an individual before he can get his sim gun deployed, from a lot further away than 21 feet.
Did the cop have a taser? If so, was it the kind you have to touch the person with or one that shoots out with wire tethers/conductors?
IF he had one and it was the kind you have to touch the person with...........screw that.

Well, my missed shots will be retained within the foundation of the house. I’d say that’s pretty much no chance.
My point is like yours: handguns accuracy in stress situations is low. The odds of hitting a bystander (as there apparently were in the draft behind the knife-wielder) were too high for me to take that shot.
Maybe police are trained to a different standard, and someone will tell me why the shoot was okay.
But according to the posts above, I would do virtually anything other than take a shot knowing bystanders were behind the knife guy.
No he was most likely aim for the head for a central nervous disconnect. Hitting the neck worked as well.
I thought cops were taught to aim “center mass?”
I guessed you didn’t watch the video a person who is twisting around like the person with the knife is very hard to taser.
One has to have good contact with both probes of the taser projectiles. The probes can be pulled out wires and be broken or one of the probes could have missed.
Have you ever used a taser.
Have you ever been severely cut I have and 11 years later the muscles in that area are still numb.
The threat Death or great bodily harm is the standard for use of deadly force. The chance that the knife user inflicting one or both was very high in this situation.
I would highly suggest that you and others do some edge weapons training to realize how fast and easy it is to kill maim or other wise harm you or someone else with a edge weapon.
They are taught to stop the threat there are times where placing a bullet other then center mass is called for.

I posted this story for several reasons and one of them is that this is one of the most tragic situations I’ve seen.
This officer’s call to shoot this kid must have been very difficult and a decision he’ll live with for the rest of his life.
Also, I’d like to find out how the school was dealing with the bullying situation, if there was one.
I’m against labeling every little thing as a “bullying” episode, but I read somewhere that this kid had been bullied by a gang of other kids for about a week.
When I find it again I’ll post a link.
