Outgoing Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, writing in Thursday's New York Times [1], says he has "a few things to say," now that he's leaving the Senate for good.
Reid devoted half of his op-ed to a defense of the Senate rule change he instituted in 2013. The so-called "nuclear option" will allow confirmation of Donald Trump's nominees (except for the Supreme Court) by a simple 51-vote majority. It eliminates the filibuster.
"One thing we fought for thats worth defending is a fairer, more open and more productive Senate," Reid wrote. "We changed the Senate rules to guarantee a presidents nominees a fair, simple-majority vote, and declared that a presidents nominees should not be stymied with procedural hurdles and a requirement for supermajority votes.
"We declared that the changes should apply regardless of which party was in the White House, because fair votes are what democracy is all about. I doubt any of us envisioned Donald J. Trumps becoming the first president to take office under the new rules. But what was fair for President Obama is fair for President Trump."
Reid called the rule change a "victory" for a "functioning, open and transparent Senate."

How about ruling by EOs?
Ignoring laws you don’t like?
Making up laws you wished you had?
Making international “agreements” and bypassing the Senate?
Using the IRS and EPA to go after your political enemies?
Is this the “Fake News” I have been hearing about?
Wow, first classy thing Reid ever said.
Reid has had his ass literally kicked and has no more fight in him ... he’s out and gone and knows it.
Sounds like he had a nice chat with Mr Trump, don’t EVER forget that Donald J Trump has been BUYING AND SELLING Scumbag Politicians like Harry Reid his entire LIFE!! I guarantee you he has more dirt on more politicos than anyone could possibly imagine.
Hahahahahaahahaha Dingy Harry
Yep, they don't want the nuclear option for SCOTUS picks so they can be magnanimous for cabinet and other picks. They are saying we are playing by the existing rules, just don't change them for SCOTUS.
Harry is on defense.
He realizes he will have a huge target on his
back once the Left sees Trump using his rules to
begin slamming nominees through the system.
“One thing we fought for thats worth defending is a fairer, more open and more productive Senate,”
look out for that lightning bolt there dingy.
I guess his brother punching him out might have knocked some sense into ol’ Dingy Harry.
He thinks the Rats will be back soon?
Why is SCOTUS not part of the option ?
The sight of Rats blaming each other will be quite amusing.
I hope there’s no change in the IRS political targeting of those not in power then too.
The public has a right to know your story of riches Harry.
1st time Harry Reid was right on something. It is a Christmas Miracle!
What else can he say?
On November 2013, Senate Democrats used the nuclear option to eliminate filibusters on executive branch nominations and federal judicial appointments other than those to the Supreme Court. ... A three-fifths vote is still required to end debates on legislation and Supreme Court nominations.
Harry makes me feel tired just looking at his picture.
