Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel met with President-elect Donald Trump in New York on Wednesday morning, using the discussion to urge Trump to reconsider his positions on immigration.
During his 45-minute meeting with the president-elect in his personal office high above Manhattan in Trump Tower, Emanuel hand-delivered a letter from the mayors of some of the nation's largest cities urging Trump to continue protections offered to young immigrants instituted under President Barack Obama's administration.
The two-page letter asked Trump to continue Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, the provision that protects young, so-called Dreamers who came to the country before the age of 16 from deportation and allows them to study and work in the U.S.
"I delivered to the president-elect and his senior adviser and his chief of staff a letter signed by 14 mayors that, uh, put together from across the country, about our DACA students. And that they were working hard towards the American Dream," Emanuel told reporters in the Trump Tower lobby following the meeting.
"And all of us fundamentally believe that those are students, those are also people that want to join the armed forces. They gave their name, their address, their phone number, where they are. They are trying to achieve the American Dream, no fault of their own, their parents came here. They are something we should hold up and embrace," the mayor added.
Emanuel has said that reversing DACA would amount to a "bait-and-switch" on those young immigrants who have trusted the government by stepping forward and offering their personal information.
The discussion between Emanuel and Trump was scheduled to last 30 minutes but went on for 45 minutes, according to a source familiar with the meeting who was not authorized to speak publicly. Emanuel met with Trump, the president-elect's chief strategist, Steve Bannon,

These lefties know in their heart of hearts that Donald’s right, that they’ve been ginning up exaggerations just to try to sling America, like a cat, around by the tail.
Time for junior year abroad. Oh, and wasn’t there some sort of deal where they could bring other relatives and make their illegal parents legal and it extended into the 20s?
The likely scenario is to be able to come back months later and say Trump reneged on promises made in these meetings (even if no such promises were made).

That was the original meaning of “anchor.” It meant they had to wait until their maturity, however, to sponsor their parents. So there was a buffer of time involved, plus the legalities of immigration yet.
Any mucky-mucks left over from the Obama administration need to go pound sand, IMO. None of them can be trusted.
I hope I’m not being pessimistic, but surely Trump knows however this deal works out, the Trib, CNN, etc, etc will make him out to be the devil.
I know I’m jumping ahead, but I don’t think the MSM will change at all, not in 1 year, not in 4. Trump will save this country from the brink, and the MSM will treat him like a ‘orange Hitler’ to the bitter end.

The F in NAFTA has to mean Fair before it can mean Free. A barter system will work OK. Not a system with a continual imbalance of payments.
At some point the cycle of vindictive punishment has to end, or everybody is trapped in a hell.
We can insist on standards of behavior policed at an individual level, but trying to generally penalize Group A because it did wrong to Group B leads to situations like... well, use your own brain to see.
Even Donald Trump is on a level with this.

I am beginning to believe Trump is far far far smart then any of his foes. I think we are going to be surprised at the depths beneath his public persona. I, for one, can see I vastly underestimated him. Only time will tell but I think he may have that rare trait other great Presidents have had. The ability to tell someone to go to hell with a smile and a pat on the back.
