Montclair State University's food pantry is tucked away down a maze of hallways in the student center. Like the hunger problem on campus itself, the pantry is not quite out in the open. It opened on the New Jersey college's campus in April, after administrators started hearing from students who said they were hungry and didn't have enough money for food. They surveyed students, finding that more than half said they or someone they know experiences "food insecurity" -- the lack of access to affordable, nutritious food. On one Thursday in December, 33 students visited the food pantry, taking what they need to help make ends meet. They left with bread, cereal, milk, spaghetti, canned vegetables, as well as personal items like shampoo and soap.

If they cannot afford to eat while living at college, they should be living at home where they will be fed and attending a cheaper school.
One of my fondest memories of being poor and married in college was mowing a professor’s mule-face steep yard for $10 and being able to buy a pound of ground beef, hamburger helper and a 12 pack of beer to hold us over until the next day/paycheck.
“Story is in no way related to the Trump Will Reform Food Stamps story that broke earlier today.”
No. Not at all. CNN would never do that, would they?

About a month ago, the local TV station ran a variation on this story. They showed the food bank set up at SIU (Souther Illinois University). And they showed three female students “shopping”. None of the three looked like they’d missed too many meals, if you get what I mean. You’d think the station could have found some skinny kids rather than air such an ironic story.
But they have money for smart phones, iPads, cars...

I am fairly certain that Media Matters has already provided CNN with a file full of pre-written stories to break whenever Trump floats an initiative that they don’t like.
Poor dears. They just can’t get enough MARXISM. Hard to believe, being that they’re on an American college campus!
Maybe if tuition wasn’t $50,000 per year, the kids could afford food.
Let them eat Play Doh!
I remember microwaving a potato for dinner. That was dinner. A potato
Ramen Pride Noodles, lunch meat sandwiches, hot dogs on white bread (buying buns separately was an unnecessary expense) and for a special treat, a Red Baron Pizza.
Fifteen or twenty bucks a week back in the early 80’s could be stretched a long way if you did it right.
One always had to budget to make sure that beer fit in with that meal plan. Old Milwaukee Light and Carlings Black Label were a poor college kid’s delight. At least until the next day.....
Japanese-Hawaiian inspired, I take it?
Yep, I did that. Scraped enough change together that week to get some margarine to put on it, and I already had some salt... but for a few days the meal was potatoes.
It’s the beginning of a Irish Seven Course Meal.
Yep, Spam sushi.
Stop buying weed and RAP/Indie music, video games and computers...
