The operator of the converted warehouse in Oakland, Calif., where a fire broke out during a dance party on Friday night, killing at least 30 people, has been widely criticized over his initial response to the tragedy.
Everything I worked so hard for is gone, Derick Ion Almena wrote in a Facebook post early Saturday morning. Blessed that my children and Micah were at a hotel safe and sound its as if I have awoken from a dream filled with opulence and hope to be standing now in poverty of self worth.
Almenas post was met with immediate backlash from Facebook users for omitting any mention of the victims.
Not one mention of the people burned to death in your death trap building, one wrote. You are a real piece of work.
All you worked on? What about those who have died? wrote another. I lost two very close and dear friends in the fire and all you seem to care about is whatever material stuff you owned, which can be replaced unless the lives your death trap has taken.

Maybe he did not have insurance to cover the loss or the deaths. Poor guy. Tsk Tsk
I’m thinking he’s in shock.
I wouldn’t be surprised to discover that this guy and his wacky wife are on strong drugs. They both seem very disconnected with the shared reality.
The social media backlash is going to be minor compared to the legal problems this cat is facing.
The owner was sited times about the building violations and the law was not enforced if so all would be alive.
We have laws for a reason USE THEM.
Wow he posted it after an unbelievable event happened to him. He’s probably traumatized and in shock.
I’m thinking he’s a self-absorbed dickhead.
Im sure he voted for Hillary and obama
“Im thinking hes in shock.”
I’m thinking he’s a sociopath.
Another malignant narcissist. The Bay Area’s full of them.
File this one under “We heard you the first time.”
What is truly sad and quite ironic is that the victims were classic liberals from the Republic of California... where the only thing that matters is having a good time at someone else’s expense and there are supposed to be layers of bureaucracy on the state level that are designed to prevent the type of disgusting, unsafe, rathole that this building had become.
Ion was not the owner; he rented the sites as a venue for his art and maybe the art of others . Ng is the owner and he owns a number of sites in Oakland. I do not know who promoted the development of the interior of the building into a rabbit’s warren of rooms for sleeping, living in or doing art in. Whoever did that is culpable along with Ion and Ng.
I hope all involved in promoting such a sty/warren are hung. No sympathy for those who exploit the young and then do not mourn their deaths. Sick.
He shouldn’t have let a bunch of airhead take his place over. Bless their souls, but it was a stupid death for all.
Yes, I think sociopath. Usually they are so self centered they cannot even put on someone else’s moccasins.

B.S.
I lost a home and everything I owned to a house fire as did several neighbors.
Firefighters were injured, but my kids were safe, my wife was safe, my dog was safe and I was safe.
My stuff was the last thing I was concerned about.
Checked in with all the neighbors to see if they were safe, made sure everyone’s pets were safe, kept up to date on the injured firefighters.
Never did I or have I complained about my stuff.
Somewhere there’s a room full of *journalists* digging to see if DJT has any connection with this property. Any, no matter how slight/remote. Mark my words.
Silly question
Was his warehouse used for the temporary storage of commercial goods; and the rave was a spontaneous act of trespass upon property neither licensed, zoned or insured as a nightclub?
In which case the partying revelers were trespassing and acting both illegally and irresponsibility.
If he converted his warehouse into a nightclub with neither safety, zoning or insurance provisions - then his deserved punishment is forthcoming. But many raves take place without the property owners permission or knowledge. They find out later and are left with damages and a mess to clean up.
True but he’s not thinking coherently.
