When he took a phone call that no U.S. president or president-elect has taken for nearly 40 years, Donald Trump had no intention of changing U.S.-China policy at least not yet, said senior transition adviser Kellyanne Conway.
It was just a phone call, Conway told Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday about Trump's 10-minute phone call with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen.
In response to Wallace's question about whether the call signals a shift in the decades-long U.S. policy toward China (namely, that the United States doesn't recognize Taiwan as a country, let alone talk publicly with its president), Conway said: It signals the fact that he was accepting a congratulatory call.
During an appearance on ABC Newss This Week, Vice President-elect Mike Pence characterized the conversation as simply a courtesy call and demurred when host George Stephanopoulos asked whether it signaled a break with the United States' one-China policy.
Well deal with policy after Jan. 20, Pence said, referring to Inauguration Day.

Panties in such a bunch.
It’s not like they communicated via Hillary’s private server.
The President elect doesn’t need to explain his taking a phone call.
I agree. Trump should tell them to F off.
The Democrat media are clutching their pearls and reaching for the smelling salts because of Trump’s transgression of taking a phone call from Taiwan. Of course, they were full of praise for the Bamster for caving to the Castro Bros. and giving generous US goodies to Cuba while not mentioning the political prisoners spending 10 years in Cuba’s filthy prisons for doing anything that may smack of freedom.
No wonder US patriots hate the two-faced Leftist media and hoot their derision when President Elect Trump calls them out on their egregious bias.
But boy were they tweaked :)
Taiwan phone call signals One China policy on the table as Trump prepares to renegotiate trade deal.
The rest is useless noise.
imho
Much to do about nuttin.
Trump. Making Chinese heads explode. Already. Next 4 years should be fun.
I guess the arms were meant to be a surprise gift.
China shoots off its mouth at everything.
Understand what it is.
Globalism is going down after billions and maybe trillions were installed. China can sell you a five dollar pair of shoes as long as you kill Ma and Pa Kettle.
No Sale.
Brexit plays right into this.
Madonna has quite a few BJ’s to pay off for nothing.
Sometimes a phone call is just a phone call.
Diplomacy is a funny thing. It’s all about possibilities, appearances, nuance, frowns or smiles with weighted meanings...
Buncha foolishness where no one ever says what they really think.
I don't know if you were following WP journoblogger David Fahrenthold during the runup to the election [his picture reminds you of smirkster Robbie "Kiddie Table" Mook].
Anyway, Fahrenthold wrote tens and tens of heavily damaging articles about President-to-be Trump - none of which had any effect at all.
I like to mock him and his fellow Twitter journos about it whenever I think of it, and get an opening. 😀
Observe why they write that WE should be scared of China, instead of siding with the president of the country. Of course, do not even attempt to question liberal’s “patriotism”.
Just as Obama’s administration was reported as flawless perfection, the MSM will find fault with absolutely everything Trump does. Nothing will be so pedestrian or mundane that it doesn’t precipitate hysterical hand wringing from the MSM. It’s already boring.
Have you noticed that all the media articles say Trump called Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen not the truth that he took the call from the Taiwanese President.
