A rapidly aging white population and fast-growing younger minority groups are speeding demographic changes across the nation, hastening a political divide likely to have long-term ramifications.

The percentage of the U.S. population that is white has decreased from 79.6 percent in 1980 to 61.9 percent in 2014. The percentage of Latino-Americans has increased from 6.4 percent to 17.3 percent over the same time period, while both the African-American and Asian-American populations have grown, too.

There are growing signs that the rate of change is increasing. The number of non-Hispanic whites who died in 2014 outpaced the number of white births in 17 states, according to a new analysis from the University of New Hampshire. That’s the largest number of states to experience a natural decrease in the white population in American history.

They never accepted birth control within marriage just like the Catholics, but the majority of Amish and old order Mennonites actually follow their official understanding of the matter.

And, even now in this election, Trump won thanks to the I orbits vote.

Thanks to the non-white vote.

Comparing Romney to Obama and then Trump to Clinton, Trump gained 1% in the white vote compared to Romney -ie pretty much the same as Romney.

But compared to Romney v Obama, Trump gained 7, 8 and 11% with Blacks, Hispanics and Asians, respectively.

The dirty secret - the non-white vote is what put Trump over the top.

I wonder what the country will look like in another generation.

At this point, I don't much care. I had 3 sons. The oldest died at 32. My genetic lineage stops with my sons. I'm 60. The grandparent experience won't be happening. Neither will retirement. I expect economic collapse and fighting in the streets before I die.

I'm wrapping up another 70 hour week. Life is just work, sleep and catch one good meal daily with my wife. It's December and I still have Memorial Day, Christmas, 2 floating holidays and 473 hours of PTO on the books. I suspect the flood of "immigrants" will be less inclined to have the same work ethic or skill set. C'est la vie. Not monkeys. Not my circus.

Exactly. Not counting Latinos as white is like not counting Italians as white. It's all about the narrative. And frankly, the race don't matter a lick as long as they're culturally Americans.

LOL who’s going to change the culture? The average girl grows up being programed that she should go to college and get a career. Then they usually slut around in their 20s before they want to settle down. Women are super fertile up until around age 30 where it starts to decline. If memory serves a woman having regular sex will get pregnant with an 88% chance in one calendar year in her 20s. By 35 it starts to decline rapidly.

So women (white women for this particular news story) are simply going to have to decide to have babies earlier if birth rates are going to turn around. But who’s gonna change their collective minds to not drive so hard for a career and to slut around in their 20s?

And yeah I know I’m making a generalization. But 5% of men and women are virgins on their honeymoon, so I think slut around is the correct term.

None of us kids in my family opted to have children

I've noticed a lot of that in the Baby Boom generation, but I do not understand it.

From as far back as I can remember I wanted to marry a good woman and raise a loving family, to share in God's creation, to play an ongoing part in the flow of time and eternity.

I do not judge those who feel other wise, I just can't relate to them.

Women have been giving men their hearts and bodies for a long time now outside of marriage. I think it’s obvious by observing our culture that for many men, that is enough.

Now given the fact that women have only so much time to have children I can’t understand why the women go along with it. What is so great about being able to break up and date somebody else (for a woman)? She runs the risk that she will simply run out of chances to have children.

Wikipedia says 72.41% of our 308,745,538 population is white. Where in the world is this article getting that it’s 61.9%? Wiki even breaks it down by narrow age groups and there isn’t a SINGLE AGE GROUP with that low a percentage of whites.

Perhaps the differences are due to the categorization of “Hispanics.” In some analyses, “Hispanic” is treated as a non-white “race,” while in others, the socio-cultural group is distributed among white, Indian, black, etc.

Indeed because diversity is NOT a strength and race matters. This division we are currently seeing is the direct result of race and racial politics.

What exactly would make it better? Less whites??

It appears from the stats that we’ve had 33.5 million immigrants since 1980.

The population has gone up 98 million since 1980. So about 1/3rd of the population growth has been from people who directly immigrated.

It would be difficult to figure out how many of the births since 1980 are births from those immigrants or their children, or births descended from people who were already citizens in 1980. I guess I’d assume between 5 and 10 million of the births were descendants of the immigrants. So maybe 40% of the population growth since 1980 is attributable to immigration since 1980.

If the 40 million immigrants and their descendants hadn’t come here, we could assume whites would still be 80% of a population that would be at 284 million. But if you add in those 40 million people, and assume they’re ALL non-white, the white percentage would drop to 70%.
