Andrew Sachs, who starred in the British television comedy series Fawlty Towers as Manuel, the earnest but bumbling waiter who was regularly recruited into the schemes of the hotel owner Basil Fawlty, played by John Cleese, died on Nov. 23 at a care facility near his home in London. He was 86.
The cause was vascular dementia, his son John said.

“I know...nothing.”
My Mom(RIP) loved that show.
Years ago, she was on the QE2 sailing out of Hamburg. They had taken on a lot of German Waiters for the crossing.
At dinner, my Mom’s table-mates (a British couple) noted that there were a lot of German help on board.
Without skipping a beat, Mom said:
“Don’t mention the War!”
Mr. niteowl77
“My Eenglish is beddy goooot... Ai larn eet, from a booook!... Que?” (I loved Manuel.)
My husband’s favorite line- “Oh, I know....” He likes to use that when I’m complaining. We had the set and it was watched many times when stuck for months on a Pacific island with no tv and dial up internet. We have several lines we regularly use. This is sad new. We loved Manuel, and especially his hamster.
His rare Siberian hamster. His mama’s recipes. His ratatoulie. Eventually. Que? Gone but certainly not forgotten. RWtL, Manuel.
Indeed. It was a gem of a show.
Mom died a year ago, and talking about Fawlty Towers brought back lovely memories of her.
For an Irish person, she sure did love those British Comedies!
Now I am going to have to purchase the series!
All 12 episodes.
6 hour binge watching.
“He see girl, he go crazy.”
RIP.
Watched a few episodes last night. God they were funny.
Look at season 1 episode 6. The war/germans.
It’s on youtube.
Exactly! LOL! :)
I also used to watch To the Manor Born.
British sitcoms were the best.
From a huge Absolutely Fabulous fan. Lol
Que?
RIP, Manuel.
How sad. But, how fortunate we were to have had such uproarious fun watching him and really, the whole cast. Til the tears ran down my face..never laughed so much.
Great years...Brit sitcoms.
I’ve always liked Penelope Keith.
Manor is one of my favorite British comedies. Up there with Fawlty Towers, Dad’s Army, Ever Decreasing Circles, The Goodies, Reggie Perrin, Fairly Secret Army, and Red Dwarf.
RIP Manuel.
