House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Wednesday fended off a challenge to her long leadership reign, defeating Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) in a closed-door vote prompted largely by Donald Trumps unlikely ascension to the White House.
Pelosi got 134 votes to Ryan's 63. The victory sends a message that while there's a growing appetite for major changes in the party's leadership structure and messaging tactics, it's not strong enough to loosen Pelosi's grip on a liberal-heavy group that's rarely challenged her authority.
Ryan and his supporters had argued that the Democrats' grim performance in this year's elections the latest in a string of cycles planting Republicans firmly in the majority was a clear signal that Pelosi's leadership strategy has failed to attract the broad coalition of voters required to return the Speaker's gavel to the Democrats' hands.

Who can turn the world on with her smile?
Who can take a nothing day and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile?
Well it sure as hell ain’t Pelosi and everyone knows it.
With each glance and every little movement she shows it.
The Democrat Party is down and you will break it.
You can never tell and so you fake it.
You’re gonna break it after all!
Good!
We wouldn’t want them to change their losing ways.
Awesome.
Schumer.
Pelosi.
Make Keef Ellison the head of the DNC and their failure will be complete.
. . . and Trump is guaranteed House and Senate control through his first term.
“It will be interesting to see what happens to the members that voted against her”
you got that right- she was P.O.ed !
at Ryan challenging her-
But he managed to get 63 votes!- might be a HUGE
beat down ( at least for the “leaders” of the rebellion)
Cracks?- can only hope... Dirty harry reid is leaving-
more signs of destruction coming?
Actually, this is good news for the USA and Team Trump!
Having defeated a venomous Harridan for POTUS, we will now witness the Democratic unraveling — another venomous Harridan will be Minority Leader for the next two years.
After all, while Ms. Pelosi has been Speaker and Minority Leader, the Democrats have lost many local, state and national elections; Democrat politicians are in the minority in the USA - and that is a GOOD THING!
All they have to do to ensure that the Democrat Party self-destructs is make Keith Ellison head of the DNC.
Keep it up, Democrats!
As Republican ballplayer Chico Esquela would say..."Nancy Pelosi been berry berry good to me"
Nancy lost that gavel when the Repubs took control of the House. She's been the House minority leader since then.
Democrat ARE pretty stupid, but so are republicans.
I recall one Paul Ryan recently being returned to the speaker chair.
Who wants to be captain of a sinking ship?
Great news!!!!
One of the most aggressive, power hungry women (aside from Hillary) that I’ve read about. She’s how old again? I think the only thing that will take her out of a power-seeking position is a direct asteroid hit. It boggles my mind.
Each Congress chooses their Speaker, a new one is sworn in January. But yeah, Republicans are pretty stupid too. In fact, large swaths of them differ from Dems only in method, “we can do it better”.
Now that she got the Affordable Care Act passed, I wonder if she ever actually read it. She did say it had to be passed to know what was in it. She is a smart cookie. I bet her husband is pleased he will be able to build a few more Post Offices for big profit.
Doing the same wrong thing over and over again expecting a different result.
We’ll see. I think it’s about 90-10 that Ryan will return as speaker.
EXCELLENT.
Now, cast the D party into total irrelevance by installing the Muslim Brotherhood (Keith Ellison) as DNC chair.
Pelosi remains Speaker....
And this in spite of California trying to cut back on cow flatulance?
This is very good news. Their leadership is going to start looking like the Petrified Forest — full of rainbows, set in stone.
Can I try?
