A number of students at American University acknowledged the brutality of Castro's regime, but insisted that he was a better leader than Trump because he did "good things" for the Cuban people.
Fidel Castros recent death evoked conflicting assessments of his legacy from world leaders, but college students are no more prepared than prime ministers to justify their support for the Cuban dictator.
President-Elect Donald Trump, for example, referred to Castro as a brutal dictator, whereas Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called him a remarkable leader.

In order to gauge millennial feelings on the passing of the authoritarian Cuban leader, Campus Reform asked students at American University which political figure they viewed more favorably: Castro or Trump.
While several students identified the repressive elements of Castros regime, such as jailing and murdering his political opponents, few were willing to say that this made them view him less favorably than Donald Trump.
I mean, right now I dont think Donald Trump is very good, and I know that Fidel Castro has done some good things for the world so Id say hes proven himself at least in the long term to be more favorable, one student opined after referencing Castros health care reforms in Cuba.
Another student borrowed language from Trudeau, calling Castro a remarkable leader and claiming that his regime made possibilities for the Cuban people nearly endless.
I would say, at this very moment, I have, um, a better opinion of Fidel Castro, professed one student, even after expressing her concerns about the repression of his people.
Several of the students who spoke with Campus Reform refused to name which leader they view more favorably, explaining that it was a hard question and that the two were not comparable, if only because Trump has not yet taken office.
One student, however, did extrapolate enough to assert that if Trumps presidency is anything like he said it will be, then I think that Fidel Castro will absolutely have been a better leader.
Dangerous and bizzaro world just don't cover it
Give me just one generation of youth, and I'll transform the whole world.

A lot of Liberals hated Reaga after he won in 1980...but remember what happened in 1984? He won 49 States. Will Trump beat that record???
They are under a very dark and evil influence.
I wonder if this Lenin youth knows castro died being the 7th richest man in the world while his people die from hunger?
To my surprise, Havana is one of our sister cities:
HAVANA, CUBA Mobile and Havana go all the way back to the 1500s and 1600s when Spanish explorers Diego de Miruelo, Hernado de Soto, Tristan de Luna and Juan de Jordán tried to increase their countrys powers along the Gulf Coast. Mobile founder Pierre le Moyne dIberville is buried there. Before embargos, the two port cities traded cotton, timber, copper, sugar and tobacco. Many believe the fathers of Cuban baseball, brothers Nemesio and Ernesto Guillo and their friend Enrique Porto, developed a love for the sport while at Spring Hill College. Plus, they celebrate Carnival, which is basically a Latino Mardi Gras. While its difficult to travel to Havana nowadays unless you are a student, have family members there, or are going for religious purposes, Mobilians can stay connected to this sister city through the Society Mobile-La Habana."
Send them all to be with him.
Two problems here. First, they obviously have not studied the actions of the Castro regime. If they had, perhaps they would have some idea why so many people in Miami and elsewhere celebrated his death. Second, in typical liberal fashion, they have rushed to a conclusion without any supporting facts. How do they know what kind of leader Trump will be when he hasn't even started yet? Typical, shallow-thinking Snowflakes.
Those stupid and ignorant and un-American students should be on the next plane to Cuba. The sooner the better.
Yes, Castro is a better leader than Trump because the students said so. /sarc
These indoctrinated students need babysitters. And after they finish with school, they will find liberal judges to baby them.
Also, these misguided, low-information students shouldnt be depending on the constitutionally limited power feds where domestic issues are concerned, but on their states.
“Fidel Castro has done some good things”
Living in a metal shack with no air conditioning on an island prison is a good thing?
better leader than Trump because he did “good things” for the Cuban people. ...................................... OH? OK, give us your names, we will see to it that you enjoy the same kind treatment.
Same thing all their professors said about Mao and Reagan and still believe.
Pray America woke
If you feel that way, then go back to Cuba or go there and live...we don’t need you here!!!
Have a nice life!
The possibilities or what? Suffering, torture and hunger.
If on the other hand we talk about possibilities of success in some endeavor I have to ask where is the proof of these endless possibilities.
What great advances have come out of Cuba in the last 59 years? What great industries have grown up in Cuba?
Before Castro there where World Class hotels and casinos in Cuba. They are still there and virtually unchanged from what I here. Elsewhere in the world things have moved on.
If the possibilities are endless why has no one in Cuba taken advantage of any of those possibilities?
No way voting age should be 18.
It hurts.
All the cry babies who said they would move to Canada if Trump won should be given paid fare to Cuba for this event.
They have free university, the greatest health care system in the world and solar power (OK. They have no power so sun light is your friend), and great unpopulated beaches. The coffee is a far sight better and cheaper than Starbucks.Better looking baristas too. These are all the things these people wanted from Hillary and Bernie.
They should be offered the opportunity to attend college in Cuba for a year-no coming back until the school year is over, have the same income and be subject to the same rules as all ordinary Cubans-they should also be encouraged to speak out about every ridiculous thing they think of, just like they are doing here-then when they are arrested and thrown in a jail even rats won’t live in, let them stay there...
Make ‘em all live in a fallout shelter for two weeks.
Vladimir would have tossed this generation back in the bucket.
