For his part, Young would eventually agree that he had painted the South with too broad a brush. In his 2012 autobiography “Waging Heavy Peace,” Young would write, “My own song ‘Alabama’ richly deserved the shot Lynyrd Skynyrd gave me with their great record. I don’t like my words when I listen to it. They are accusatory and condescending, not fully thought out, and too easy to misconstrue.”

Such a rarity, an absolute unicorn. A leftist capable of introspection and seeing other points of view. I know what Neil Young is, but have always enjoyed his music, off-key warbling though it often can be. Now I know why.

I have never understood the appeal of Neil Young. Even before the political garbage I could not stand to listen to his nasal, whiny voice.

And yet even in that he shies away from taking the responsibility for what he said. Look at it again - it’s a liberal non-apology apology. “I’m sorry you misunderstood what I said.”
