Elian Gonzalez, the Cuban boy who was involved in an international custody battle 16 years ago in Miami, is mourning the death of Fidel Castro, a man he compared to a "father."
Elian was a photogenic five-year-old in 1999 when he was found floating on an inner tube off the Florida coast.
Sixteen years later, he is recalling Fidel Castro as a man he likened to a father.
In an interview on Cuban State TV Saturday, he said he wanted Fidel to be proud of him.
Speaking in Spanish, he said, "He is a father who like my father, I wanted to show him everything I achieved."
Now almost 23 years old, Elian remembered when Fidel attended his elementary school graduation.
Gonzalez' mother and other Cubans accompanying the boy died trying to get to the United States from the island 90 miles to the south.
His case quickly became another battle in the long-running feud between Havana and Miami - one that ended with the boy's return to his father and grandparents in Cuba.
Elian was the only one who did not drown. He is the Antichrist... or just extremely lucky.
I wonder if little Elian ever gives a thought to his mother who died trying to get him out of Castro’s hell hole? Had his mother not have sacrificed her life to get him to relatives in Florida, little Elian would not be living as one of Cuba’s elite, but eking out a life in grinding poverty just like the majority of Cubans.
He just wants to stay alive
That sucked. There’s still next time
Every sign is that he has been legit brainwashed. Sadly he may be one of the people that needs to die before freedom comes to Cuba.
Elian Gonzalez Mourns Death of Fidel Castro...but now his hemorrhoids will have a chance to heal.
“Brainwashed.”
Thoroughly brainwashed. Poor kid never had a chance.
Exactly! You are the first one to finally recognize in my opinion what is really happening here. He hasn’t been brainwashed. He isn’t a liberal snowflake. He is a puppet of the state run television. Cuban television is probably immortalizing Castro and discussing the great things he did for Cubans. Who knows what this poor young man has been threatened with! The Cuban government has not soon forgotten the ways of Castro: threats and propaganda. I highly doubt there is one Cuban who is truly that favorable of Castro. Heck, I bet his own brother is glad to see him dead.
I say good riddance to bad rubbish!
Whenever the lefies say "You can't deport illegals!" they should be forced to repeat that looking at the picture of Elian and Donato(?) with ICE rifles pointed at them.
Yeah, right. They CAN deport anyone they want. They just don't want to.
