Wisconsin will begin a historic presidential recount next week and the state could risk losing its ability to have its 10 electoral votes counted if it doesn't meet key deadlines next month.
Hitting a Dec. 13 deadline could be particularly tricky if Green Party presidential nominee Jill Stein is able to force the recount to be conducted by hand, Wisconsin's top election official said.
Stein and independent presidential candidate Roque "Rocky" De La Fuente separately filed recount requests late Friday, the last day they were able to do so. Stein received about 30,000 votes and De La Fuente about 1,500 out of 3 million cast.
One or both of them will have to pay for the recount because they lost by more than 0.25%. The cost could top $1 million.
Stein is also planning to ask for recounts in Michigan and Pennsylvania, which have deadlines next week. She has raised $5 million for the recounts in recent days more than she raised during her campaign leading up to the Nov. 8 election.
Wisconsin's recount will likely begin late next week, once the state has tallied a cost estimate and received payment from Stein's campaign, said Michael Haas, administrator of the Wisconsin Elections Commission. Recounts will be done by county boards of canvassers, which will likely have to work nights and weekends, Haas said.
The push for a recount came as liberals raised fears about hacked voting machines. Election officials and experts say they are unaware of any problems with Wisconsin's vote tally.
Republican Donald Trump edged out Democrat Hillary Clinton by some 27,000 votes in Wisconsin, becoming the first GOP presidential candidate to win the state since 1984.

Maybe the goal is to ensure PA, WI, and MI cannot complete a recount in so their electors can vote in time for DEC 19 to give Trump the win. IN that case the House has to decide to accept electors late or vote as the House to select the President since none would have 270 electorial votes. Guess the game is to try and get the House to select so,some other than Trump.
THe other reason is to continue to try and delegitimize Trump’s election.
Not if they can use the car that Al Franken used in his Senate win.
Trump , Walker, Americans need to be made aware of this. But they think the election is over and are having Thanksgiving dinner with their families.
This is Trump’s site . He has a HUGE button there for send us your ideas . It goes to his email.
I’ve been sending him emails but I’m only 1 guy.
“majority of electors voting”
That’s the key...
See above. If the number of electors voting is less than 535, then the majority of that number is lower than 270. The 270 number didn’t apply when there were 49 states. Or fewer.
If those 3 states can’t complete counts to seat electors, the new number is 245. Trump still wins, without the HOR.
Wait. Doesn’t Trump have 306 EVs? How does that drop him to 260? Wouldn’t it just drop him to 296? What am I missing? And adding 10 to Hillary’s count wouldn’t give her 270.
WI, PA, MI
Note the 535 did not include DC’s 3. So shrug, still about 245. Denying Trump 270 because electors don’t vote from states because of delay — does not prevent his victory.
She would have to win PA, WI and MI for 46 EV’s
If the electors aren’t cast., then it is a majority of those that are. 260-232 Trump. Trump still wins.. Like the civil war and the 1864 election. Manufacturing ballots for Hillary is the only way to change it.
I the three or four famous recounts of this century, the vote totals have, at most, only changed by maybe 500 votes. Now this has been enough to change the results a couple of times, but it is inconceivable that three states, all with differentials in the tens of thousands will be flipped for Hillary.
They would need to swing all three states.
Even if Hillary was awarded WI and MI in a recount, in any scenario, Trump still keeps PA.
She can’t win without it.
There IS great danger in the recount.
The rejected absentees and provisional ballots are re-examined. That’s where new votes can be manufactured.
“This is a total waste of time. Why does Stein matter to call for a recount?”
Oh please, she doesn’t. This has stench of Clinton all over it. Last ditch hail mary, and the leftist Judges that will let it proceed know this full and well. Stein will have her new house down by the river like Bernie in no time. And if the votes of WI have been tainted post election, she will her Cabinet position when the Dominos also fall in PA, MI. She has nothing unless the fraud is baked in the cake.
Not going to happen.
They can recount until the cows come home but Trump won the election.
This is desperate even for the folks who said before November 8 to respect the election result.
They forgot to add the caveat except if a Republican won.
Sorry, I believed it was the majority of the eligible electors which would require 270.
27000 state wide? That seems a little much
That includes votes for Trump, too.
Another fact Hillary’s lawyers are well aware of.
No. That's not the way it works.
If a re-count cannot be completed by the certification deadline specified in the constitution, the state legislature is empowered to assign the state's electors to the candidate of their choice. The electors will thereby meet on December 19 and vote accordingly.
Since Republicans control both houses in all three states, Trump will not be denied any EV.
