Coler is a soft-spoken 40-year-old with a wife and two kids. He says he got into fake news around 2013 to highlight the extremism of the white nationalist alt-right.
"The whole idea from the start was to build a site that could kind of infiltrate the echo chambers of the alt-right, publish blatantly or fictional stories and then be able to publicly denounce those stories and point out the fact that they were fiction," Coler says.

When did you notice that fake news does best with Trump supporters?
Well, this isn't just a Trump-supporter problem. This is a right-wing issue. Sarah Palin's famous blasting of the lamestream media is kind of record and testament to the rise of these kinds of people. The post-fact era is what I would refer to it as. This isn't something that started with Trump. This is something that's been in the works for a while. His whole campaign was this thing of discrediting mainstream media sources, which is one of those dog whistles to his supporters. When we were coming up with headlines it's always kind of about the red meat. Trump really got into the red meat. He knew who his base was. He knew how to feed them a constant diet of this red meat.
We've tried to do similar things to liberals. It just has never worked, it never takes off. You'll get debunked within the first two comments and then the whole thing just kind of fizzles out.

NPR....now thats a problem that needs to go away.

Its hard to take Republicans seriously until they defund PBS/NPR. These are just purveyors of leftist propaganda. Defunding them would be a good first step toward demonstrating serious intent to take away subsidies for leftist causes.
The last time I listened to NPR, I decided to take notes on how many stories dealt with something other than diversity. The story on a black family that . . . was followed by a story on a trans boy/girl (I never figured out which) . . . followed by a story on a hard-working "undocumented" immigrant . . . followed by a story on the first woman manager at . . . I was going to write down the subject of the first real story that wasn't focused on a democrat talking point, but they never got to one that qualified.
Most definitely.
I think that’s a great idea. I remember seeing that very thing happen again and again with fake stories. You have to out the stories as fake, not just delete them. You have to make people aware that they’re being punked. That doesn’t happen if they just get deleted. Over the past year or so, planting fake stories has been a cottage industry of the left. Which, BTW, makes their current complaining about fake news a little pathetic. It was mainly their people doing it.
It was a FReeper (Buckhead) that first exposed the documents as a forgery, and ultimately led to Dan Rather being fired.
Imagine what might have happened if a moderator's reflexive action had been to delete the article because it was identified as a hoax.
Many of those occurred long before Trump came onto the political scene.
Of course not. Liberals have dozens of already existing fake news sources such as NPR, ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN providing them with enough fake news to fully satisfy themselves.
I’d add “Planet Money” podcasts to your list, too.
On this thread, we first heard about a dog rolling in a fresh turd. Then you described NPR & PBS execs rolling around in tax dough.
My mind is mixing these two metaphors.
YEP
I know that once, they were set up to activate at random intervals to distract incoming Soviet ICBMs, but that’s about the only use I can come up with for government broadcasters.
They obviously cannot be trusted in any kind of civilian capacity.
Yes, I remember the Buckhead days well and that is a great point.
Along those same lines, we now have no record of all the fake stories that were planted here. The issue of fake news stories generated by leftists is a pretty big deal, but now it’s like it never happened. If we wanted to go back and make the forensic case against the left for doing this, we couldn’t do so using FR’s archives. We’d have to go outside to leftist outfits like Google, using their cache from their crawlers.
Defund NPR.
Shows the agenda here. The guy had NOT mentioned Trump supporters before this question was asked. Bias, bias, bias. When did you notice that fake news does best with Trump supporters?
The bias preceded the question. The bias occurred when the guy with that perspective - rather than you or I - was selected for the interview.
NPR is touting the fact that the only fake-news person they could find is a liberal, and they’re praising him?
No, he posted FAKE NEWS, trying to IMPLY that Conservatives were posting this stuff. Well it BACKFIRED, because we are MORE Motivated to VET the News. He posts FAKE STUFF, the MSM posts FAKE STUFF! HAHAHA
Coler sounds well suited to the game he’s playing ... he hasn’t a clue where truth is, so he does the usual liberal diseased mind thing, make things up. His blatant lying in the interview went right over the interviewer’s head.
FIRST clue to the raft of lies was the NPR sourcing.
What about fake news from abcnnbcbs and the nytimes for example.
