S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley tapped to be Trump’s U.N. ambassador

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, a rising Republican star and daughter of Indian immigrants, has accepted President-elect Donald Trump’s offer to serve as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations in the coming administration, according to a person familiar with the selection process.

The move, which will be announced Wednesday morning, was first reported by the Post and Courier , comes as Trump advisers are seeking to diversify his ranks and marks his first female appointment to a cabinet-level post.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a decision that has not yet been announced by Trump’s transition team.

Haley, 44, who is serving her second term, has worked on trade and labor issues as governor but brings little foreign policy experience. Her views on various U.S. military and national security matters usually fall within the GOP’s hawkish mainstream.

Trump met with Haley last Thursday at Trump Tower in New York as part of the round of meetings the president-elect has held.

If confirmed, Haley would be replaced by South Carolina’s Lt. Gov. Henry McMaster, a top Trump ally. His ascension is seen inside of Trump’s inner circle as a welcome consequence of her departure, the person said — a way to promote them both.

Haley is WINDOW DRESSING.

1) The U.N. is irrelevant.

2) Having someone with Brown Skin helps. As people take pot shots at American policy, we just accuse them:

“RACISTS!”

I agree with you. She should be ashamed of herself, along with the one in New Mexico? who wouldn’t come out for Trump when he was in the state.

SOS. You pick the best person for the job. I think Trump might be seriously considering Mitt. I’m not real hot on Rudy for the job. Newt would be better here to reorganize the federal gov’t.

Rudy, best in a place that deals with home security.

I will accept whomever is chosen as I don’t think Trump is picking people politically, he’s picking the best person for the job.

I don't quite understand why an up-and-comer would relinquish a governorship to descend to the third basement: Ambassador to the United Nations. As for The Donald: I am rather hoping he will consider defunding that Marxit / Islamic organization. It is sort of like welfare, food stamps and Social Security for illegal aliens.

That is correct. She’s a non-player from the get go.

I just heard from Indo-American friends who are quite excited about this assignment to Nikki Haley, considering they were (and still are) very anti-Trump. It will go over very well in that community and goes a long way to counteract the media lies about Trump being anti-women and a white nationalist. Nikki Haley is attractive and articulate, regardless of some of her political missteps.

Trump did go out of his way to woo Indo-Americans, and it was noticed, and was relatively successful. I remember the 5000-people “Hindus for Trump” rally in NJ and pundits in India who were excited about a Trump win being good for the India-US relations.

Every little step to overturn the media narrative helps our cause.

Because the UN is important to the Left, and Bolton saw the UN for what it is.

We’ve got enough problems to fix both at home and abroad. It’s not necessary, at this point, for Trump to be thumbing his nose at the UN. Appointing Haley to this position is his way of saying “here’s a Republican of color, elected in a deep Red state....stick that into your diversity pipe and have a good smoke, Lefties”.

I agree. So what if one of his picks isn’t our favorite. Didn’t we just hire him because he knows some stuff about making decisions? So let the guy do it already, people!

She was term limited. She couldn’t run for governor again. She had a year remaining on her term. No need whatsoever for Trump to give her any job. She hates Trump. She’s made no bones about it. She is an establishment RINO, a Bushie. This pick along with Common Core advocate Betsy DeVos as Sec of Education and I’m seriously questioning Trump’s smarts. This is crazy. Will it be topped by Trump hater Mitt Romney as Sec of State. Breitbart is slamming these appointments.

Trump could win SC with a monkey as governor. Haley is term limited from running again. She has no experience whatsoever in foreign affairs. The pick makes absolutely no sense.

I can see two steps to max benefit:

1. Promote a Trump ally to Gov of SC

2. Congratulate Haley, then withdraw from U.N. and evict them from USA.

Oops, Nikki, you’ve been downsized and off-shored.

It isn’t about “winning” SC in 2020, it is about co-opting potential critics of his policies while he is President. By bringing her into the administration, she is obligated not to criticize him.

I don’t know that foreign policy experience is necessary to be UN ambassador. She just has to deliver the positions Trump tells her to. She doesn’t need to negotiate anything herself. She will have made contacts and gained experience from being there, which is why she’ll probably take the job as a resume filler, but she doesn’t need experience going in just to be the President’s errand girl.

A poor choice. Weak, a backstabber and panderer.

On the other hand, perhaps he has assigned her to a ship which is going to be scuttled.

Y’all have a great Thanksgiving, I printed up a few “Happy Trumpsgiving - We Have a Lot to be Thankful For” posters from an image I came across, and scattered them around the kitchen at my in-laws’ house. They liked that quite well.
