UPDATE, 2:00pm ET: In a meeting with New York Times reporters, President-elect Donald Trump said he would not take the investigations of the Clintons off the table.

Two reporters tweeted from inside the meeting, as Trump also expressed the view that Clinton "suffered greatly" and that it would be "very, very divisive for the country" to prosecute the Clintons.

Trump is intentionally keeping people guessing here.

He is certainly making somewhat contradictory statements. Are they careless, or are they calculated? He is doing that with the electoral college also -- making vague statements on both sides.

I am sure Trump knows something about what is on Weiner's laptop, and he may know of more nefarious activities. We know he talks to Rudy, we know he talked with Mike Flynn of NSA. And he and his team have heard from how many folks that we know nothing about.

No matter what statements he makes now, if "events" after the inauguration "bring new information" to his attention, there is nothing to stop him from, even "reluctantly" authorizing DoJ or FBI to pursue things.

It’s not going to be ‘divisive’ once the evidence is shown...

Why is he even being asked this?

Because the media know they can get a story. This is not even a matter for the President to be involved with. It's an AG matter.

Trump also expressed the view that Clinton “suffered greatly”
Sort of want to say: “What difference at this point does it make?”

Anyone who ever lost a child knows that the suffering is unending and greater than losing the Presidency could ever be. Waaahhh, poor Hillary only has wealth, grandchildren, lived 8 years in the Whitehouse, was Senator, Secretary of State, travelled all over the world. Such a sad, sad, deprived little doll is she. If I am to feel sorry for someone’s suffering it will be people of Haiti or parents of those lost in Benghazi or women threatened by the Clintons. It will never be the privileged, wealthy Clintons.

“........it would be “very, very divisive for the country” to prosecute the Clintons.”............

NOT IN THIS LIFETIME! The Clinton’s have been “dirty” for many years and continue on their merry way while others, having committed far lesser crimes now sit in jail. The Clinton’s are NOT ABOVE THE LAW although they think they are. They must be held accountable and pay society for their misdeeds and corruption.

Trump speaks for Trump. He has no sycophants. They screwed up. Won’t be the last time. I knew when I heard it that it was wholly inconsistent with justice for all and he has an obligation to live up to his promise to get an independent investigation for a non rigged review. I hope he does. I dare say that before he was hung Saddam Hussein was punished too.

I care about this greatly. Trump promised the people a full independent investigation. She took bribes— Bill clinton was a conduit for bribes. Mills and sullivan and huma weiner all need serious jail time IMO. Hillary jeopardized our national security. This is a country of laws. I did not hear the Conway screw up but she screwed that up and I still love her. But Trump settled it. If Obama wants to grant clemency as his only legacy in history he needs to get it on!!

I know about the comment.

Just being devil's advocate here, she could say "he doesn't wish to pursue these charges" and he could mean "I wish I didn't have to pursue these charges."

I'm not saying that's what happened, but it would be a pretty quick step-back from all the wild chants of "Lock her up!" that motivated his rallies in the last weeks of the campaign.

Personally, I think there has to be a line in the sand that our top elected officials must not cross, and Clinton crossed it. Obama ran a very loose administration where anything goes and anything went, but selling policy and mishandling state secrets is a line too far.

We must not forget that there is precedent. Richard Nixon's Attorney General John Mitchell was convicted of conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and perjury regarding Watergate and went to prison.

Hillary Clinton was not a head of state, as was Nixon when he was pardoned. Clinton should not be afforded the "nation-saving" treatment that Nixon was given when he was pardoned by Ford. Clinton was a Cabinet officer who grossly abused her trust, and should be given the same treatment that past Cabinet officers (like Mitchell) received.

YES, onyx!

I wait to hear from Trump, in his own words, justifying the benefits of selective justice for the elites, folding on Hillary and the Clinton Foundation, limiting investigations and punishment for only the little people accused of lesser malfeasance, with no attempt to enrich themselves or trade favors.

Trump will never lay that case out, not with a general threatened with jail time for protecting security but caught posessing secret information.

I am not worried about a smack down against lessers accused of much less, so HRC can “heal” and be treated differently by Lady Justice, just for convenience and because she is an elite.

Not by Trump. You’re right, TRUMP plays with the media.

Reminds me of William Wallace in Braveheart which I’ve seen again a couple of times recently. I almost want to see it again because the Braveheart story and political conflict so closely mirrors the fight here between the true lovers of America and the corrupt GOP. William Wallace cries out for “freedom” on the battle field while the corrupt nobles cower and betray. An accurate representation of today’s fight.

This isn’t about “vengeance” - nobody needs that. This is about making just laws and the Constitution mean something and making it clear that NO ONE, ESPECIALLY top government officials and the corrupt Clinton Crime family, is above the law.

It’s about sending a message through to the mostly unconstitutional federal government that their lawlessness, corruption, and tyranny is OVER! America NEEDS this very much.

Bill Mitchell (@Bill Mitchell on twitter) had many tweets about this today. They are worth reading.

One of his points is that under the new administration, any criminal investigation of HRC and the Clinton Foundation will be done by the DOJ and FBI, totally independent of the Presidential office. Currently the Clintons are being investigated by several agencies including the IRS, FBI and maybe NYPD. This will going to continue.

Another point is that Trump just took away the motivation for Obama to pardon Hillary. We can surmise that Obama is very worried about the impact a pardon would have on his legacy but he could be pushed into it (by the DNC and Soros) if he could paint Trump as vindictive and Hillary as victim.

My fear is Obama will blanket pardon Hillary anyway, and maybe Bill as well, and there won’t be any earthly justice. Interesting that there’s a new prophecy from Mark Taylor (who prophesied Trump election 4 years ago) that the Clinton Foundation will be under worldwide investigation, and many prominent leaders, heads of states, SCOTUS judges, will be disgraced and fall because of what is uncovered. Now THAT would be God’s justice.

My first thought when I heard this today was that this puts the ball in Obama’s court.

If he pardons Hillary, she will forever be tainted with the “implied” felonies she claims she never committed.

If he doesn’t pardon her, she’s left wide open.

And Trump could then be the magnanimous one pardoning her after a conviction.
