UPDATE, 2:00pm ET: In a meeting with New York Times reporters, President-elect Donald Trump said he would not take the investigations of the Clintons off the table.
Two reporters tweeted from inside the meeting, as Trump also expressed the view that Clinton "suffered greatly" and that it would be "very, very divisive for the country" to prosecute the Clintons.

I am praying that Trump keeps his campaign promise to investigate AND prosecute the Clintons. Hillary lied to Congress and if Trump is really concerned about the People, he would show us that noone is above the law.
Trump played the media even when he had that reality show-he does it all the time, so I can’t see freaking out over s*** like this-after the way Obama used the just-us dept as a political steamroller, Trump isn’t going to go the same way-he can have clean hands and a new justice dept that smells of bleach and has no Lorettas secretly meeting Clintons on planes, etc-let them investigate and prosecute...

Trump is intentionally keeping people guessing here. By making statements about the Clintons `suffering greatly`, etc. he`s making the point that he has no desire to pursue this out of personal vindictiveness.
Another point to make is that it could be possible to show leniency and still pursue prosecution. Trump can always show leniency, if he`s inclined, after the fact, by commuting or lessening the sentence. This would still allow the crimes to be revealed to the public and would still ensure the Clinton`s reputation would be ruined.

2 conflicting reports in less that 8 hours. This further obfuscates his authentic position in Cankles eyes, increasing the frustration that is about to engulf and incinerate the Cankle Glo-BUL Initiative.

It could be that some reporter took a vague comment a,pumped it up and put the story out there to box Trump in so that he either looks like he's breaking a campaign promise, or his team is in disarray and can't get their stories straight.
It's all about trying to split Trump from his base before he takes office.
