To the many things the Trump administration in waiting has made cool again, add private businesses refusing service to customers based on moral objections.
Friday, fashion designer Sophie Theallet, who has dressed the current first lady Michelle Obama, offered a preemptive refusal to hypothetically dress the next first lady, Melania Trump, should she ask for some of her clothes presumably not the ones available at The Gap. In her unsolicited letter, Theallet informed the world that a person who did not ask for any of her clothes would not be getting them.
As one who celebrates and strives for diversity, individual freedom and respect for all lifestyles, I will not participate in dressing or associating in any way with the next First Lady, the letter reads. The rhetoric of racism, sexism, and xenophobia unleashed by her husbands presidential campaign are incompatible with the shared values we live by.
I encourage my fellow designers to do the same, it goes on.
In refusing service to Trump, Theallet appealed to individual freedom and the idea of her art as an expression of the companys artistic and philosophical ideals. Her announcement was called noble, patriotic, and admirable integrity.
Or ones that if I DID support them would get me mercilessly attacked in public, on social media, and even in the MSM, and possibly beaten up by liberal thugs, who will simultaneously ruin my business and my family's life. Isn't the "Tolerant Left" wonderful?
Heya heya they call us deplorable xenophobes!
Doesn’t Melania have her own line of clothing? Or is that Ivanka?
Q: Is it acceptable for a Muslim cabbie to refuse to take a female fare, a fare w/a service dog, a fare carrying a bottle of booze?
If not....
Melania needs to go to that designer and order a dress. (Not that she’d EVER wear it). And when she refuses, take her to court.
Well, there are a few hundred rich people who won’t be dressed like (i) the cleaning lady or (i) an escapee from a Star Trek play put on in a mental hospital, as the moocher has often looked.
Answer, never mention gay, transgender, or muslim. Just say, “I don’t like your tone - no soup for you!”
Okay then, #MAGA will be #MMHA; Make Melania Hot Again.
I mean would eat a cake you made me make???? WTF
Damn right I’ll make you a cake...$1000 up front please....pictures too....but $$$ up front. And, I’d advise you be very close to the bathroom after eating my great cake....ha ha ha
A gay hairdresser (is there anything else?) recently refused to do the hair of (RINO) Republican governor Martinez because she was a Republican (RINO).
In the very same state, a photographer was prosecuted for NOT doing a gay wedding. The case went to the U.S. Supreme Court and the arrogant marriage-dictator court rejected the appeal of the photographer.
Justice in America.
Sorry — the photographer state is New Mexico.
I wouldn't necessarily say "cool", but "legal". For example:
Should a black baker be forced by law to bake a cake for a KKK gathering?
Should a Jewish baker be forced by law to bake a cake for a Nazi picnic?
No business should be forced to do business with anyone.
In a true just world, a merchant should be able to refuse you to serve you for anything. It’s their establishment and your money they are knowingly turning away.
More nanny government nonsense.
Find the one that Moochell is wearing what looks like a “pinata”. It’s the most horrible looking thing I’ve ever seen. Plus those outfits that Moochell looks like she has been melted and poured into them.
If Moochelle weren’t the First Lady, there are many designers who would refuse to dress her for her size - it is not exactly great advertising.
Oh, I mean only if she were also white, of course.
I seldom go shopping, I know that is not normal for a woman, but I have health issue that keep me home malls are not handicap friendly.
I AVOID those cashiers in muslim dress like the plague. They won’t allow my carry gun in the mall, and I wear Christian T’s when I shop along with a large Cross. I also boycott business that don’t allow it or don’t say Merry CHRISTmas. My wallet speaks loudly.
Right???
You can’t always get what you don’t want?
How about, I don't serve argumentative customers.
Which should get the customer argumentative.
