Donald Trump, Rival Mitt Romney Have 'Great' Meeting as Trump Races to Fill Cabinet
NBC News ^ | Nov 19 2016 | Phil McCausland and Vaughn Hillyard

Mitt Romney emerged Saturday from a closed-door meeting with President-elect Donald Trump — a face-to-face sit down he called "thorough and in-depth" after they traded bitter barbs with one another during a divisive election.

Trump and Romney seemed to bury the hatchet at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey — where the businessman-turned-politician moved his White House transition team for the weekend — in a meeting that started shortly after 1 p.m. ET and lasted about an hour and a half.

Trump walked the former governor of Massachusetts outside and told the press, "It went great."

“Maybe he could fix the VA!!! I really don’t want him ANY WHERE around this administration!!!!”

I too, do not trust Romney, plus the fact that Romney is just like G. W. Bush......the democrats can run all over them and run them down and say whatever the democrats want and Romney and bush never bothered to fight back and stick up for not only themselves or their staff.

My opinion is that the meeting was held as a courtesy and for public relations purposes.

Agreed. Trump is meeting with GOP bigwigs to let them know what he's planning to do and to get them on board. Trump wants and needs a 100% unified party to accomplish his initial agenda. Any GOP flamethrowers will be a distraction and give the media and Rats an opening to claim that there is dissension (although they'll say that anyhow).

This needs to be a singularly focussed blitzkrieg.

Romney, also addressing the press, added that "we had a far-reaching conversation with regards to the various theaters in the world where there are interests of the U.S."

No, that can't be true...to hear Mitt tell the story, Trump is ignorant.

Nice post. Mick......the song lyrics fit your screen name.

One of their better songs when they were at their very best. “Gimme Shelter” will always be my #1 Stones song.

Trump: “Thank you for coming, Mitt. Let’s get together again a few years from now. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have the business of state to attend to.” Haha

Romneycare was basically forced down his throat by DC bureaucrats and MA Democrats.

***********

Nobody forces anything down the throat of a strong leader. Recall if you will that Mitt couldn’t even put Obama away when he had him on the ropes during the debates. Romney didn’t have the conviction or fortitude to land the big punch. Had he done so, he could have saved the country from four years of Obama. He failed when it mattered.

Put Mittens in charge of fixing the VA...

*************

Mittens turned around the olympics, but those were just games. The VA is about the lives of our veterans. This is a job of the highest importance. Not sure Romney is the right guy for that level of responsibility.

I do not consider Donald Trump more than a human being, no more flawed than the lot of us. I believe that he, as was Ronald Reagan, is unique in what he has to offer as leader of this country. Both had and have backgrounds which prepared them for the task at hand and by their own free will took on the heavy responsibility of ruling a nation of millions of other humans. Both had and have an ingrained common sense that has been integrated into their lives and how they function. I am no devil, but my Irish aunt used to call me a she devil when, as a young person, we were at odds over something. Strong opinions run in my family, Irish and German, and one thing we all seem to have in common is a sense of right and wrong, religious or secular in origin. Romney may be saint or sinner, he has proved the lengths that he will go to to destroy the one chance this Republic of the United States of America has to survive. Trump is one of a kind. Romney is not. I, nor anybody else that I know of, believes that Donald Trump is not in total charge of whom he hires and fires. However, our opinions helped get him to where he is now. Our opinions are not now irrelevant. Deal with it.

GOD blessed DONALD TRUMP with beautiful golf courses and hotels to host official business. They cast the vision “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.”

Your are exactly right. It is a no win proposition and I don’t see Trump going that route.

There have to be candidates for the positions with less baggage than Mitt.

We have extremely talented people in this nation, and Trump is capable of sorting them out > IMO.

He will. We may not like some of his appointments, but I’ll bet he gets what he wants out of them, or else.

I do approve of these two meeting to bury the hatchet.

If Romney wants to voice supportive comments from time to time, I have no problem with it as long as he keeps it simple and doesn’t mis-characterize things.

If that guy happens to be someone who trashed Trump and his platform for 17 months, how is that going to make Trump look?

No argument here, but it's not as if Trump doesn't know who Romney is. I'd be curious to hear the logic behind Romney's selection (should it occur).
