Senate Democrats are not going to be able to block Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions bid to become attorney general. And they cant do much to stop Kansas Rep. Mike Pompeo from assuming the helm of the CIA.
And they have only themselves to thank for it.
Thats because exactly three years ago, the Democratic Senate majority led by Harry Reid (Nev.) rammed through controversial rules fundamentally changing the way the Senate does business. They unleashed in November 2013 whats called the nuclear option allowing senators to approve by a simple majority all presidential appointments to the executive branch and the judiciary, with a big exception for Supreme Court justices.

An argument for changing the rule is that the Democrats given the same situation in the future probably would.
They didn’t have to change it for Obama’s two appointments because they knew the Republicans would fold like a cheap suit, and they were not disappointed.
I suppose the Republicans could hold the threat of a rule change over their head if they filibuster Trump’s nominee.
Utah Grand Jury on Harry Reid bribes and racketeering is still possible. Please call Utah AG Sean Reyes and tell him to stop blocking it.
They screamed like children when Bush was going to try the nuclear option so the GOP backed down only to watch the Dems use it themselves when Obama became president. Even if some Republicans believe it is unfair, we need to keep this rule at least for the same amount of time the Dems used it - to be fair, of course.
I have not found anything to back up your statement.
The Nuke-Option, coming to Congress near you.
Thanks Dingy, your depravity is pure genius.
Hey, Harry....how's your brother doing? Still beating up family members?
Hes YOUR problem, now. :)
My former father came up to me just before I walked down the aisle with his daughter and said, "Kev, I love my daughter, but you're fuc**ng nuts"! He was right.
When did t’his happen? Can you su
Pply a link?
Schadenfreude
Ah, those pesky unintended consequences!
Hoist on their own petard!
And watch them be the first to cry foul, lol.
My brothers father in law told him the same thing. I wish he ran at that moment.
Can Trump keep reappointing the same person until they approve his appointment?
Don
You're asuming that Paul will stand up to Trump.
How many battles has Trump lost in the past year?
They never expected the shoe to hit the other foot - now it will kick them in the ass - and Trump’s shoe is far larger than they imagine.....
HAHAHAHA. As much as I am for a limited and powerless government I will enjoy the melt down. Suddenly democrats will discover the constitution and cry for respecting the minority party.
Harry needs to spend more quality time with brother Larry on the “exercise equipment”.
As long as Mitch McConnell doesn’t “magnanimously” decide to change the rules in a demonstration of bi-partisanship. It wouldn’t be a surprise.
What goes around, comes around...
