"...If Sessions heads to the Trump administration, he would leave behind a coveted seat in the United States Senate. Governor Bentley would appoint Sessions's replacement in the short-term and set a date for a statewide election to fill the seat.
Given the importance of the seat, we certainly shouldn't rush this. Bentley ought to appoint someone with an eye toward an election being held during the 2018 midterms. Special elections are expensive and often feature low turnout. With most of us experiencing campaign exhaustion, it's prudent to set the election during a normal cycle.
So whom might Bentley appoint if Sessions departs? Several sources I've spoken with suggest a few names on an emerging short list: Representative Martha Roby, Attorney General Luther Strange, state senator Trip Pittman, and state senator Cam Ward.
Like Bentley, Martha Roby didn't back Donald Trump. ..."

Bentley is a cheater who got dumped by his wife of nearly 50 years yet refused to vote for Trump on moral grounds. Sure hope he nominates Gary Palmer or Mo Brooks.
NO Bradley Byrne or Martha Roby
“I HATE the heat.”
That’s exactly what I posted here last year.
I used to tell my co-workers,when asked if I was moving to Florida after retirement, that I was retiring to International Falls,MN.
.
I was thinking Becky Gerritson, who was the lady testifying before the IRS committee re: the Tea Party targeting. I went to FB to look up the spelling of her name and some people have already thought her about her because there is a Becky Gerritson for Senate group already.

It’s an appointment you have to accept, not something you are required to do.
And I read that Giuliani didn’t want any cabinet position
I think it’s idiotic to be appointing Republican Senators to any Cabinet positions. We simply can’t take a chance on squandering our Senate Majority!
Mo Brooks. House of representatives.
Maybe he didn’t want it. It sounded like Guiliani was hoping for SOS.
Relax. Its Alabama.
Judge Roy Moore
Giuliani stated he would not accept being Trump’s AG. He said he would do anything else but not AG.
Not Byrne. He would be a GOPe guy.
Strategic planning...
Jeff Sessions is a person of incomparable accomplishment, and with stature hard to replace. But in all of Alabama, there must be another who could grow into the job, and it behooves the Governor, Robert Bentley, to rise above his recent public relations problems, and appoint a sincere replacement.
That's the only thing that would explain it to me because I was under a strong impression, especially after seeing Giuliani speaking for Trump, so often on Hannity on Trump's behalf, and assailing Clinton's corruption, that Giuliani would be first in line for the job.
What doesn't make sense to me is why Giuliani would not want to jump into the fray. He comes across as caring and ardent about these issues. Why would he not want to be AG?
Don’t forget that Bentley threw his endorsement to Kasich during the primary season... even after knowing half the state was going Trump crazy (including Sessions).
> He could appoint Roby or Byrne.
> He will need to call for a special election... but legally there’s no timetable for this.
> Gary Palmer is good, though too inexperienced;
> Mo Brooks is next (also a Freedom Caucus member)
> Byrne gets a 96% rating from ACU, but I don’t trust him.
Push for Mo.
Giuliani consistently, ardently, and clearly explained and assailed Clinton’s corruption as no other did over this past year. His case is already prepared for court filing basically. Why would Giuliani would not want to jump into the fray as AG?
I’d love to see Giuliani clean up D.C. as he did NY. Granted, not the same, and more difficult since in NY he was dealing with low-life gangster types and in D.C. he’d be dealing with Ruling Elite criminals. Nevertheless, it would be a wonderful sight to see.
Do I smell conflicting loyalties?
He has already done Justice and wants a new challenge.
Not confident Bentley would appoint someone with Sessions views. He endorsed Kasich during the primaries and removed Confederate flags from the Capitol grounds and no one had even complained.
Maybe Sessions will recommend someone.
Mo Brooks, Congresscritter - Rocket City USA . . . aka Huntsville would earn my vote in a special election.
The D’s have no one to run against him. Last time around Parker Griffith . . . who can’t seem to decide IF he is a D or an R . . . he is a D and a poor candidate and even worse officeholder.
the problem with appointing good senators and congresscritters is that they are really really NEEDED where they’re at
