I believe the GOP governor of Alabama will appoint a replacement for Sessions seat.
It's Alabama. The governor will appoint a Republican as interim senator. A Republican will be elected in the special election. Nothing will change.
FWIW, I think they have a shoe-in replacement for the seat, or Trump wouldn’t have made this pick.
Alabama would appoint/elect another Republican.to take Sessions’ place. If he appoints Duncan Hunter to anything, a Democrat will take his place. I hope he doesn’t raid the Senate of their Republican majority.

If you must pluck talent from the senate, then do it from a safe state, like Alabama. Though it will still be difficult to replace Sessions in that capacity.
I too will wait until I hear the picks from Trump himself. NBC has a very poor track record of reporting facts, so I cannot take them at face value as a valid and trusted news source.
