Texas Oilmen Push For Ted Cruz but Immigration Hard-Liners Want Dark-Horse Kris Kobach

A fight is brewing among forces behind the Trump transition over the future of the Justice Department, with separate factions pushing Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach.

A cabal of wealthy Texas oilmen is aggressively promoting Cruz for attorney general, according to a person with direct knowledge of discussions behind the scenes who also said the one-time Trump rival wants the slot.

On Thursday a new wrinkle emerged, with the Trump transition team releasing a statement about a meeting between Trump and Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions. Trump, the statement said, 'has been unbelievably impressed with Senator Sessions and his phenomenal record as Alabama's Attorney General and U.S. Attorney.' Those words suggest he is being considered to run the Justice Department.

A separate group of billionaires is encouraging the president-elect's team to embrace Kobach, citing his hard-line approach to restricting immigration across the board.

Those insiders want Trump to appoint Cruz to the U.S. Supreme Court instead.

“Fortunately, Trump is displaying far greater wisdom & insight than you seem capable of mustering.”

You have no idea whether Trump is considering Cruz for ANY position, and neither do I.

It’s my hope that his keen sense of people’s loyalty and character will cause him to take a pass on Mr Cruz.

As I said, I’ll trust Trump’s judgement and take a pass on your pearls of wisdom.

Prepare to be disappointed when Trump wisely deploys him, then.

Congress decides what the definition of a citizen is. The court doesn’t decide it. Natural-born citizen simply means you met whatever the legal requirements to be a citizen were at the moment of birth. It’s a question of timing.

.........simply based upon skills and knowledge and interest (in the court) and conservatism, Cruz is to a Supreme Court Seat what Tiger Woods is to a golf course. We need him.

Ted demonstrated his squishiness on illegal immigration many times during the campaign.

I would agree that Cruz was not as forthcoming about his immigration plans as Trump. However, I read this as a strategic decision on his part -- a.) don't expose your hand to the illegals in advance and b.) after each stage of the operation, survey the results and change course as necessary.

When he finally did reveal his entire program, I found it as acceptable as Trump's -- if not a little bit moreso, since Trump was, by then, in the habit of backing away from some of his earlier statements.

I deeply suspect FReepers who cry, wail and menstruate over Trump and Cruz charging together in arms.

“Why do I smell a Bush in the woodpile?”

It has that whiff, indeed.

Raphael Edward should not be appointed to a damned thing unless he can produce papers establishing what citizenship status he has, if any. Having recently burned his Canadian citizenship status in 2015, he may be persona non grata in fact.

We know he is dishonest. He deserves no place of honor or trust until his records are unsealed and his bona fides are produced. In the meantime, he is no more credible than mystery person Barack Hussein Obama.

“Bush did not like Cruz.”

So they say. But when the chips were down, the Bushes whistled and Cruz ran to their feet and fawned. He is, after all, their construct.

If your mother was a us citizen, and you returned before 8 years have lapsed, then you are without question a natural born US citizen.

The founding fathers already defined 'natural born' US citizenship. Congress nor any court has the authority to change that definition. The Congress and some courts did decide to ignore the founding fathers and let the ineligible Obama reside in the White Hut. Republicans in majority ignored the 'original intent' of the 'natural born' requirement to hold the office of president... The 'natural born' clause goes to the heart of 'we the people' are government.

Funny how Ted's position at Harvard Law School was follow the 'original' intent of the Constitution... and then for self serving purposes, Ted Cruz decided that 'original' intent should not apply to himself.

You’re another lying scammer.

Ted Cruz’ mother was never a Canadian citizen.

Ted Cruz was born a US citizen.

Glib liars like you have a special gift coming, and I’m sure that you’re well aware of it.You have borne false witness and it surely is a consuming habit for you.

Er, exactly where did the founding fathers define "natural born citizen"?

And how did they define it, precisely?

Horse hockey... 'Natural born' US citizenship requires THREE parts, mother and father US citizens, and they birth their child on US soil. Germany was NEVER considered a US state, and neither is Canada... Obama was NOT and will never be a 'natural born' US citizen and neither will Ted Cruz.

Somebody with a US passport has proven to the State Department that they are a citizen.

Well, either that or Lyin Ted.....lied. He certainly hasn't proven it to anyone else.

So, would that be the Obama/Hillary State Department, or the Dubya State Department?

You’re living in dreamland.

Natural born means that regardless of where you were born, you are a US citizen.

The only relevant place any of this is in writing is in court opinions. There is no opinion in agreement with your silly rant.
