Boeing will shift more than 2,400 jobs out of its Huntington Beach facility over the next four years, the aerospace giant announced Tuesday, slicing in half the number of workers at the sprawling campus.

A nationwide streamlining of operations at the company’s Defense, Space & Security division will result in the transfer of 300 Huntington Beach jobs to its Seal Beach facility and 1,600 positions to its plants in Long Beach and El Segundo.

Another 500 jobs will move to St. Louis. And an additional 400 will move to Huntsville, Ala., from Huntington Beach and other facilities around the country.

No surprise. California is about as business hostile as it gets in the US.

So glad my father, who worked for Douglas Aitcraft for over 30 years, left this earth before the complete extinction of the aerospace industry in Southern California was complete.

Isn't the Huntington Beach, CA part of the former McDonnell-Douglas facilities? I expect Boeing to shift a LOT of work to South Carolina in support of the 787 program and some to the Seattle area to support the 777-8/9 program.

Rocket City U.S.A. aka Huntsville AL will welcome the additional employment at Boeing facilities in and around Madison County and Morgan County.

This will be great. Have sophomore son majoring in Aerospace Engineering with minor in Computer Science and daughter graduating next May with Chemical Engineering.

AND . . . IF The Honorable Jeff Sessions becomes Secretary of Defense . . . I expect Rocket City U.S.A. and all of our defense contractors in the area to benefit quite nicely. As well as a new director of NASA to actually have as their mission, science, research and space exploration instead of Muslim Outreach as deemed their mission by Barack Hussein Obama.

Real shame what has happened. The industry was a major economic powerhouse for decades.

The company and the work ... and the jobs! ... are not leaving the USA, just re-positioning to other, probably less taxed areas.

There is a movement here in California to secede from the union. It is led by wackos including Silicon Valley types. Do they not think that this would cause mass migration of many companies out of California? It would also cause in migration of takers to reap the benefits promised by the liberal government. Good luck with that.

The aerospace plant I worked at for over three decades - which was owned by Ford, then Loral, and finally Lockheed Martin - closed in 1997 because of the tax-happy California business climate.

Not to mention real estate. 500K or more from California will buy a mighty fine house in Rocket City U.S.A.

The article really doesn’t say (or at least I didn’t see it) but is this move the result of winding down the C-17 line?

That may be the facility in Long Beach, CA.
