Illegal immigrants are preparing to ask President Obama to pardon some 750,000 Dreamers, saying such a move is their last, best hope to stave off what they fear will be a wave of deportations once Donald Trump takes the Oval Office.
Community leaders have planned a rally in New York on Wednesday to make the request.
Millions of law abiding undocumented immigrants are fearful of what will happen when the new Administration takes control in January, the group of New York state lawmakers and immigration advocates said in a statement announcing the rally. However, President Obama has the power of pardons that he can use to protect all DACA enrollees.
As of September, more than 740,000 illegal immigrants had been approved for Mr. Obamas Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, a minor amnesty that grants young adult illegal immigrants a two-year stay of deportation and issues them work permits, entitling them to drivers licenses and some taxpayer benefits.
Mr. Trump has signaled that he would cancel that order, leaving Dreamers out of status when their work permits expire. That puts Mr. Obama in a bind because he has expressed an interest in helping illegal immigrants but also has acknowledged limits on power.
Mr. Obama ducked a question this week about what steps he might take and instead urged Mr. Trump to think long and hard before canceling the DACA program.

Totally Lawless.....The court shot his Executive Order down....This is what happens when you encourage lawlessness. They take over...
Well, THAT could wind Obama up in jail, I hope. The cherry on top of his whole worthless administration.

Cross check them with the voter lists. Deport them.
Mass pardons would only apply to their illegal presence up to the time of the issuing of the pardon. Their continuing presence afterwards would still be illegal and thus they would still be subject to deportation.
The President can pardon them for the crime of entering the country illegally, but that will not make them legal.
PS. The word “Dreamers” should never pass Donald Trump’s lips.
He should ban all euphemisms with regard to illegal immigration.
One of the powers of the Presidency is so set the tone by controlling the terms people use to discuss things. Every time Trump says “Illegal Alien” the Donks.will freak out and tie themselves in knots, screaming about how he has to call them “unregistered Americans” or some such. This will make his opposition completely ineffective.
Within six months, they will get tired of this and go back to calling them what they are. Once they start doing that, he will be halfway to winning.
Call it what it is,
Anything to thwart the will of the American people
Exactly! Illegal vote, gone. Think what a resource they are gonna be at home!
The best they can hope for is being pardoned for Illegal Entry (either bypass INS or overstaying their visa) - but to have a clean record, they must leave. For if they’re still in this country the next day, they are still subject to deportation as they are continuing to commit a crime (which is being here illegally).
“Illegals demand ...”
I see a problem with this statement. Let me think what it is.
Oh, yes. It reminds me of Muslim refugees who are taken in by other countries. They immediately start demanding things.
It this case with the illegals, it’s much worse because NO ONE INVITED THEM to come here!!!!!!!
Doesn’t the Hussein administration brag about how many illegals are deported?
Instead of mindless and disruptive protests, these "Dreamers" should pay attention to what Donald Trump actually said, and maybe ask for clarification. Did he not say he was going to deport criminals, gang members, and drug dealers. Does this include Dreamers?
Do these "Dreamers" know anything about constitutional law in the USA? Do they know the immigration laws? Are some of them gang members, criminals, or drug dealers?
Perhaps they are being misinformed by community organizers and the media whose objective is to cause chaos and disrupt our system of law and order.
Who is encouraging them to ask for a blanket pardon?
If we are to believe that these illegal aliens are such a great asset, then won’t they be a great asset in their home countries?
The left has built up a complicated narrative regarding illegal aliens. If we are to believe the left, deporting the illegals will cause businesses to crumple and cause tax receipts to plummet.
Unfortunately, too many on the right partially accepted the left’s premise by using the left’s language. When the left started calling illegal aliens “immigrants,” did anyone challenge them? How many people posted comments after news articles or wrote to the editor to challenge “news” outlets to use accurate language?
I do not care if businesses using illegal alien labor fold when immigration laws are enforced. If they do not want to hire Americans or legal residents and pay them higher wages and taxes, those businesses are destructive to our economy and do not deserve to survive. We are also already paying welfare to too many Americans—as taxpayers, we certainly don’t appreciate the extra burden of having to pay welfare for illegals.
As I understand it they could be “pardoned” for other crimes, but not made “legal”—so an ineffectual move.
No use of the term “progressive “ either.
Call these Marxist scumbags what they are, socialist and communists.
“...law abiding undocumented immigrants” It’s properly stated: Illegal aliens. People who entered the country illegally. So not ‘law abiding.’
And call them "The Democrat Party". They hate that!
Millions of law abiding undocumented immigrants are fearful ...”
...that they will no longer get away with breaking any law it serves themselves to break.
