U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) is slated to introduce legislation Tuesday which would eliminate the Electoral College, so presidential elections would be decided by the popular vote.
Boxer is expected to introduce the bill when the Senate comes into session Tuesday.
This move is in response to Donald Trump's presidential victory last week. The president-elect won the presidency through the Electoral College, although Hillary Clinton is leading the popular vote by nearly a million votes, a statement from Boxer's office read.
Trump won the presidency by securing at least 306 Electoral College votes while Hillary Clinton recieved 228 with two states still left to call, according to NBC News.
"When all the ballots are counted, Hillary Clinton will have won the popular vote by a margin that could exceed two million votes, and she is on track to have received more votes than any other presidential candidate in history except Barack Obama," Boxer said.
Trump will be the fifth president in U.S. history to win the election despite losing the popular vote.
"This is the only office in the land where you can get more votes and still lose the presidency," Boxer said in a statement. "The Electoral College is an outdated, undemocratic system that does not reflect our modern society, and it needs to change immediately. Every American should be guaranteed that their vote counts."
Four years ago, Trump called the Electoral College "a disaster for a democracy," in a tweet sent on Nov. 6, 2012.
Yet Tuesday morning, the president-elect sent two tweets conveying his support for the Electoral College.
"If the election were based on total popular vote I would have campaigned in N.Y. Florida and California and won even bigger and more easily," he said.
In a follow up tweet he said: "The Electoral College is actually genius in that it brings all states, including the smaller ones, into play. Campaigning is much different!"
If Boxer's amendment were to pass, it would amend the U.S. Constitution, and "would take effect when ratified by three-fourths of states within seven years after its passage in the U.S. Congress," a statement from Boxer's office read.

The. Senate wasn't created to represent the population, only the states. Unfortunately in 1913 our Republic blundered by passing the 17th Amendment and removed a portion of our Constitutional Republic. The popular vote to elect Senators effectively removed individual state representation at the Federal level.
Kalifornia is a case in point. With the diverse political climate in Kalifornia if Senators were still appointed by state legislatures it is possible that the conservative portions of Kalifornia could lobby their state representatives to have one conservative senator so their was equal representation of factions. As it is with popular voting for Senators they will send 2 rats every time. The popular vote represents the people. The Senate is supposed to represent the state not the people.
It was an ingenious government created by our founders. We messed it up in 1913. We need to fix it by repealing the 17th Amendment. In doing so we in "flyover country" would be more fairly represented.
The electoral college is the founders protection for all states. All states deserve a voice regardless of size.

MSM is DEAD to me. (I watched Stahl’s TRUMP interview, but
because I wanted to see and hear him; not MSM’s antics.)

So a state like PA would turn blue no matter how the people of the state voted. Funny most of states listed are traditional blue states.
Do these people not understand why the forefathers established the electoral college?
This election was a prime example of why the made the electoral college. Take California out of the equation, Trump wins the popular vote by about 1.2 million. California would have canceled out the rest of the nation. The electoral college ensures all states have a say in the presidential election. That is way the forefathers did that. Back when the country was founded, states like PA and NY would have canceled out states like SC and GA.
Study your history Ms Boxer.
Any other time, we’d need a Constutional Amendment to make a change. But, with Ryan and McConnell in charge, ......

The article did say that if passed, three fourths of the states would have to ratify it within seven years to become an amendment. Read the whole thing.
Boxer needs to bone up on her 7th-grade civics.
It would take two-thirds of both houses of Congress plus 38 state legislatures to get rid of the Electoral College. That’s hardly going to happen.
The only thing that I think might be better would be the system that Maine and Nebraska use, only for all states.
That, and repealing the 17th, would put real power in the people's hands, while simultaneously limiting the effects of voter fraud in "Key Precincts".
Which also is precisely why it will never happen. :-)
Do away of the Electoral College and no election will be won honestly, but by fraud and heavy populate states.

Allende took his victory where 64% of the population voted for someone else as a mandate to transform Chile into a Marxist-Leninist state. We all know how that ended.

I count myself a blessed woman to have been educated in a time and place where the Constitution was taught. I also taught my children and have instilled it in my grandchildren. Susequently, all of voting age openly vote conservative as do the spouses. It should be that important to all Americans. I am happy that thus far each of the offspring who have married are not only equally yoked in faith but patriotism as well. Can't imagine having a lib spouse. I couldn't do it.
