WASHINGTON (AP) - Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani emerged as the favorite to serve as secretary of state in Donald Trump's incoming administration, a senior Trump official said as the president-elect narrowed down his Cabinet picks.

The official said there was no real competition for the job and that it was Giuliani's if he wanted it. The official was not authorized to speak on the record and requested anonymity.

Giuliani, a top Trump adviser, said Monday night at a Washington event sponsored by the Wall Street Journal that he "won't be attorney general" in Trump's administration - a job for which the former federal prosecutor had been seen as a top contender even before Trump's election.

I would have never put Rudy there. If not AG, I would have put him in charge of Homeland Security. This position requires a lot of traveling, and while Rudy clearly has a lot of energy, he is still in his 70s. I had always thought Christie would get AG as a consolation for Pence getting the VP spot after Christie was Trump’s first public endorser from the GOP field.

“Rudy as Sec. of State would be the worst possible nightmare for the Clinton/State Dept. cabal.”

Whoa. I think you might have nailed it. Can you please pick 6 numbers from 1 to 47 for me?

The SOS makes you old; your life is lived on a plane. I can’t see it at Rudy’s age.

Communism showed up in different ways than “Sovietism.”

One insidious way was (wait, I know you’ll want to bash me for this but hear me out) McCarthyism itself. McCarthyism managed to ape some communistic methods of putting pressure on people to conform, but in the name of fighting communism. Thinking people knew something was sour, but were hounded out of sounding the alert. It eventually passed, but the notion of pressuring people in ways that are not characteristic of free countries remained. It might have been one of the cleverer false flags of communism.

That’s exactly why I wanted Gingrich as SOS

*** Mark Levin for AG.***

Hahaha. Funny. He’s got a business to run? He’s got one to try and salvage.

I think Giuliani would be a better AG and John Bolton would be a better Sec. of State.

Rudy said he wouldn’t accept the position.

Really? How about FBI?

I think Soviet style communism is dead, except in places like North Korea. What we have now are Marxists who masquerade as Globalists (UN types) and even Capitalists. In many ways, the Soviets were easier to fight ‘cause you saw them coming a mile away. The current crop are shape shifters and can burrow deep into any organization.

Newt doesn’t want any traditional role. He wants to be “Inspector General” with a warrant to go anywhere within the government, do analysis, and report back to Trump on changes to streamline and downsize departments and agencies.

Guilliani as SoS is a surprise. Maybe he doesn’t see AG as a new challenge, or Trump wants an AG with just as much energy and experience but less baggage than Guilliani. Maybe Pam Bondi as AG ? I haven’t heard much good about here tenure in FL, but as a resident maybe Trump knows her and likes her ?

AG seems like a lot more rigorous job than Sec of State. Sec of State doesn’t really have any measurable results you have to achieve. Sec of State seems more like public relations than anything else.

To be fair, Foggy Bottom needs draining more than any other area. It has been a source of rivalry and foot dragging for all too many Republican Presidents.

Bolton was my first reaction, but other Freepers immediately decried Bolton as a bomb throwing neo-Con. Maybe Trump agrees and sees Guilliani as a surprising departure from Neo-Con foreign policy.

Wow, I sure hope he doesn’t become SOS. That is not where his talents lay.
