A feud in one neighborhood has reached a boiling point, after one man bought a billboard to pressure a registered sex offender to move in Robinwood, Alabama.
Jeb Lessley had the billboard made at a local business for $160. It shows Raymond Martin's mugshot and lists his address and charges, including second-degree rape and sodomy for a 2013 conviction involving an underage girl.

Yet thieves, violent wife beaters, drug dealers and murderers don’t have to register for life putting themselves out there to be harassed, and persecuted for their pasts for the rest of their lives.

the guy is a fool to think the sex offender across the street is the only one who is a threat to his wife and kids. And he should educate himself and his family not just live in fear and create more problems for himself and his family.

I understand what you mean by that, and that is not something that I consider a sex crime.
Young people doing things of that nature with other young people is normal IMO.
Now if a young person were do something like that with child, then that’s a problem.
Sounds like a classic neighbor grudge fight wrapped up in a sex offender wrapper. The article’s not clear on specifics. The legal use of the term sodomy can refer to oral sex. In California, a charge of statutory rape can be filed for sex with a minor who lies about her age.
The other aspect that’s potentially interesting is that even if the sign-maker has his facts straight, he may still be defaming the guy. Stuff like this usually drags on for years, enriching lawyers, until one side or the other runs out of money.
True, but in a lot of cases there is more to the story. I've heard of guys pulling over and pissing by the side of the road, and getting nailed as sex-offenders -- I've never verified any such story but I've sure heard 'em more than once, FWIW. Consensual sex, the girl gets angry about something much later and lashes out as girls are prone to do, makes up a story and bam, guy is a sex offender...That sort of thing. Not everybody who gets the rap is as guilty as people might think. Many are, of course.

At least they know where one is. Not likely to go out and do more damage. If you drive down any neighborhood street past ten houses, on average seven will have homes where pornography is watched and out of those two homes its mostly child porn.

Can you cite a source for that? My local county sex offender registry has hundreds over 50.

I get the motivation for a parent to want to do this (kill child molesters), but he needs to be very careful.
Even if this Step-father continued to get away with his vigilante acts, I have always heard that once you have knowingly killed somebody, it is much easier to kill somebody else after that. I’d be concerned that his rationale would become more generalized, more prone to assumption.

When I think of a sex crime, I am thinking of a grown adult doing horrible things to a child.
Listen, in 1st and 2nd grade, I went to an after school childcare run by a husband and wife. they had three of their own children, they were the official child care of the Catholic school called ST. Rita, the bus dropped off a large load of kids there every day.
And her husband was a child molester, and I’m the one that busted up his gig.
And wouldn’t you know the school took no action on him. Kids still went there after I ratted him out.
So I am pretty harsh on these things.
