True, but in a lot of cases there is more to the story. I've heard of guys pulling over and pissing by the side of the road, and getting nailed as sex-offenders -- I've never verified any such story but I've sure heard 'em more than once, FWIW. Consensual sex, the girl gets angry about something much later and lashes out as girls are prone to do, makes up a story and bam, guy is a sex offender...That sort of thing. Not everybody who gets the rap is as guilty as people might think. Many are, of course.
Yes, that is a good point, and I have to acknowledge it.
When I think of a sex crime, I am thinking of a grown adult doing horrible things to a child.
Listen, in 1st and 2nd grade, I went to an after school childcare run by a husband and wife. they had three of their own children, they were the official child care of the Catholic school called ST. Rita, the bus dropped off a large load of kids there every day.
And her husband was a child molester, and I’m the one that busted up his gig.
And wouldn’t you know the school took no action on him. Kids still went there after I ratted him out.
So I am pretty harsh on these things.

Those cases happen a lot less than people think. My husband, lawyer, would get sex offenders in his office with stories like that. A little bit of digging and the truth came out - they were lying or there was something much more going on (not peeing on the side of the road).
Most states are quite careful of who gets put on the registry and many have a tiered system based on the crime.
A friend of mine was observed urinating in an alley by a woman and her child. The woman called 911 and he was charged and convicted of a sex crime. His life was ruined and now he must register as a Level 1 sex offender (This is in Massachusetts).
