The scenes in the final act between Luke, Vader, and the Emperor are some of the best filmmaking the original trilogy has to offer. That final confrontation, when Luke *almost* turns to the dark side, before ultimately making the right decision and redeeming his father in the process, is the climax of the entire series.
Unfortunately, it constantly cuts back to godawful Ewoks going Viet Cong on storm troopers. And the film ends with a teddy bear picnic and fireworks.
