Hillary Clinton acknowledged on a call with her campaign staff and volunteers on Friday that her election loss had taken an emotional toll. But she encouraged those listening to stay engaged in the political process once the despair of Tuesday passed.
Im not going to sugarcoat it: These have been very, very tough days, Clinton said. This is a tough time for our country. I think we have seen how people have been reacting to the events of this election and I know we have got to be reaching out to each other to keep it clear in our own minds that what we did is so important. It looks like we are on the path to winning the popular vote, and that says volumes about the importance of your work and the lasting impact it will have.
Clintons comments are the first shes offered since her concession speech to Donald Trump on Wednesday morning. Then and now, she kept a calm demeanor, not casting blame for the outcome but instead encouraging those listening to move forward constructively. Fridays call, which The Huffington Post was able to dial into, lasted roughly 15 minutes, interrupted for a few minutes by a tech snafu.
Clinton thanked her backers for the work they put in, calling the campaign one of the greatest honors of my life. And she encouraged them to remain politically engaged in the future.

Weren’t the media talking about possibility of Trump winning popular vote but losing the EC? Know I heard that multiple times surfing networks in days leading up to the election. They spoke of it as sort of a: “AH, too bad for Trump and his deplorables...too bad you got the PV and lost the election anyway.” s/off
That it happened to her is just delicious!
Hopefully they will get a LOT tougher, Hill.
“Hillarys pain is like chocolate avalanche cake with a tall glass of vitamin D milk. Im sleeping so well these days.”
I know!
Sleeping straight through the night.
My face looks five years younger released from stress.
Have finally “exhaled” and can take deep breaths again.
Am positively glad that cancer in 2014 didn’t “get” me. (With Obama/Clinton, it didn’t matter much.)
The “pause” button on life has been released.
Energy and focus have returned.
“She wont condemn the violence and vandalism. I despise that.”
Why would she? She’s helping to organize/pay for it. Ditto for Obama. They’re lovin’ it!
“Dont go away mad, you vile little witch, just go away.”
The other day Kennedy called her a “shriveled witch”. Struck me funny.
Seeing Trump in oval office pic, can’t wait for his and Melania’s makeover.
Not nearly as tough as those days at Benghazi for Chris Stevens and the others.
“2016 will certainly be one of the most historic years in American history. It was the year when events happened we never thought wed see in our lifetimes. The Cubs winning the World Series and the Clinton Dynasty being taken down. Ah yes, the holidays are gonna be extra special for all of us Freepers this year. These may be very, very tough days for Hillary and her leftist goons, but very happy ones for the rest of America.”
But... but... but... Fox News told me America is grieving!
:-) :-)
“They have not been at all tough for me.”
Well, good for you. My family has struggled every single day Obama’s been in office.
Yeah, you can tell by all the laughing and smiling faces you see.
I am pretty sure that Clinton was referring to the days since the election in the article, not the entire Obama presidency. The days since Tuesday have been peachy for me, especially observing the liberal angst.
I thought you meant the last eight years had been peachy for you.
Alrighty.
Someone should file a “Winners” and “Losers” list for the 2016 election.
For instance, all the Bushes, Obamas, Clintons, and George F. Will, would be “Losers.” “Winners” would include Rust Belt blue-collar workers, evangelicals, Bob Dole for alone among the gop-e elite backing Trump, etc.
That would surely include bow-tied George F. Will.
This is true, and “popular vote” is not in the Constitution.
