The White House refused to rule out Wednesday whether President Obama might grant a pardon to Hillary Clinton to spare her from President-elect Donald Trump prosecuting her after he takes office.
White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Mr. Obama is hopeful that Mr. Trump will follow long-standing tradition of not punishing political opponents through the criminal-justice system. He said all clemency actions go through a formal process, and that will remain in place until the end of Mr. Obamas presidency in January.
The president has offered clemency to a substantial number of Americans who were previously serving time in federal prisons, Mr. Earnest said. We didnt talk in advance about those decisions.
He said Mrs. Clinton has worked very hard over a long period of time, and we owe her a major debt for her service to our country.

As long as Hilary doesn’t admit to anything, there is nothing to be pardoned for as the FBI and the justice department closed out the investigation on November 6. If Obama pardons her for nothing, he makes himself and her fools. It will close the books on any political aspirations either has as they will, by trying to clear a person that has already been cleared, admitting guilt and lying to the public. I hope he does pardon her. Political suicide. They’ve lied about everything else. Seems fitting.

no, justice must be served
to even consider justice as vengeance is weakness or the highest order
Pardon her for what? What did she do? When did she do it? Where did she do it? Why did she do it?
What BS. I read an article yesterday (which I could not post because FR was of line most of the day) that said that Obama can pardon her ONLY for Federal crimes. He cannot pardon her for state crimes, or for any other crimes, yet to be discovered. If he issues a pardon, it seems to me that he needs to include Bill, Chelsea, Mezvinsky, the Rodhams, and Donna Shalala too, as well as Brazile and Podesta.
IIRC 0 used a pseudonym to correspond with illary in the emails.... so he’s in it up to his eyeballs...
This would be an absolute gift to Trump. First, by pardoning her, Obama would be implicitly acknowledging she did something wrong. Then, Trump (and his AG) wouldn’t have to deal with her and could focus on the new Presidents agenda. She would be a pariah. The Nixon of our era.
Right. A thorough investigation and trial could implicate Obama or at least require him to testify. If he pardons Hillary he'll need to pardon Bill and a number of their henchmen.
0bama is going to pardon Hillary Clinton and her whole crew. 0bama might pardon himself as well.If he pardons everybody involved in the crimes they won’t testify against 0bama.

And she will never admit guilt....
Therefore no pardon...
And if no pardon...
This could get real interesting!
I have been in rallies yelling “lock her up” but at this point I am questioning it. How much is it worth for the Clintons to just go away? Probably more than she has taken.
Mid-terms are just around the corner and incumbent Presidents lose House seats since opponent base is more energized than incumbent.
Trump has two years to make positive change. Do we want that time wasted on having to hear about Hillary everyday?
To me he has two key legal objectives to accomplish before mid-terms which are way more important than prosecuting Hillary:
- Voter ID/Voter Tracking/Vote Integrity: This means people must be citizens and can only vote one time and can verify who they voted for.
- Remove Illegals from Country: This also helps ensure voters are eligible.
See wastoute’s post #8.
Interesting.
He said historically there HAVE been people who went to the gallows insisting they were innocent when all they had to do was admit guilt and a pardon was already available! Incredible.
Not all the investigations were closed on the 6th.
He won't have to have his administration spending time getting the *itch the justice she deserves. And the image of "crooked hillary" will be cast in stone. She'll forever be scorned as the woman who lost because she's a crook and she's the Butcher of Benghazi. Future generations will despise her, and she won't even have the chance to defend her reputation. Add to that, it will tarnish Obama's record for pardoning her, tying him for eternity to her misdeeds.
So, yeah, Obama. Pardon her, please.
The Obama administration crimes include siccing the IRS on conservative PACs, running guns to Mexican drug cartels, and stopping the FBI from uncovering the depth of Clinton's pay-for-play operation.
If Obama pardons his former Secretary of State after her gross negligence of maintaining national secrets and taking kickbacks for policy favors, will he also pardon his Attorney General or can Loretta Lynch still be investigated for conspiracy and obstruction in the cover-up of Clinton's crimes, just as Mitchell was for Nixon's?
What would Obama's legacy be if he has to pardon his Secretary of State, both Attorneys General, and the IRS Director for crimes done on his behalf?

I’m sure a pardon will happen. Hillary isn’t getting prosecuted and I don’t hold that against Trump. He said that during the campaign but that just isn’t how things work. What will happen is that President Trump will commission a blue-ribbon committee to study the case, a 500-page report will be generated detailing what all she did, it will make her look like crap, and that will be the end of it. When a new administration comes in, the previous members don’t get put in jail. Other countries do that, we don’t. All the talk of prosecuting GW Bush was just liberal masturbation fantasies, none of that was ever going to happen, that was just something to slam him with and try to rattle his cage. This is pretty much how Hillary is going to go, too. Any job that Hillary gets will be a no-show job. With her health, she’s in no condition to be a school crossing guard.
Spiro Agnew had enough sh*+ on him (WAY more than Nixon) to spend the rest of his life in the clinker but he was allowed to plead guilty to a single charge of tax evasion, paid a fine, and one of the conditions of the plea deal was that he resign as VP. This asshat made John Gotti look clean. Nixon didn’t trust or like Agnew and didn’t let him make any executive decisions whatsoever, so the post of VP was essentially a no-show job for Agnew. After he resigned (a year before Nixon resigned), he moved on to the private sector for a short time and then retired.
The source is mistaken. Nixon was pardoned, but he never admitted to any guilt.
Bush 2 thought they would just go away. I will rest when she has a stake through her heart, a silver bullet through her brain stem, the ashes have been mixed in concrete and the block dumped in the Mariana’s Trench. And even then I will sleep with one eye open.
When I said pardon, I mean an unofficial pardon in that the Trump Administration will decline to re-open the case and prosecute her.
Why would she need a pardon? Both she and Obama claim that she has done nothing illegal.
