Senate Republicans, flush with victory and defying the odds, have maintained their majority in the upper chamber and vowed to move quickly on repealing Obamacare. Senate Majority Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said, “It's pretty high on our agenda as you know. I would be shocked if we didn't move forward and keep our commitment to the American people."
President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to repeal President Obama’s signature domestic achievement. McConnell did not discuss whether reconciliation would be used, though the chances of that are likely since the GOP majority is slim. And there is virtually no chance that Senate Republicans will be able to cobble together nine Democrats to reach 60 votes for cloture. Still, make no mistake, Trump and Congressional Republicans have signaled that Obamacare repeal is on the table. I am not OK with the current rates for health insurance. They have gone up with Obamacare. I want the rates to go back down. I expect our representatives to implement policies that bring them down.

Insurance rate aren’t going down ever. They increased every year, even before Obamacare, and will conitnue to do so.

I've read it many times before. I don't see much there that is likely to make a difference on healthcare costs.

I'm well aware of that and I do have issues with it. In the first place insurance has always been a state issue and the government taking that away from them would violate the 10th Amendment. Second, saying that I can buy insurance across state lines doesn't mean they would want to sell it to me. And I can see no benefit to them by doing so.
Right, Mitch, and to kick you out of Congress—right after we restrict your Healthcare coverage to Obama care and your retirement to social security.
I know McConnell is not popular here, but he deserves kudos for not caving in on the Supreme Court nomination. Giving Trump that pick will be Yugh!
The Dems will block, through filibuster, any and all attempts to get rid of Obamacare. However, could the Republicans use a Continuing resolution to defund it, since that is the way that it was passed originally? Also, could the Republicans gain a veto-proof majority after the 2018 elections, since so many Dem senator seats will be up in that election?
I guess we’ll have to watch and see, then. I have high hopes for the Trump administration. I believe they will follow through with their promises, and that they will result in lower health insurance rates.
They can use reconciliation to defund it. That would only require a simple majority.

It's always possible but not very likely.

Sen. McConnell is wrongly ignoring that repealing Obamacare is not simply a matter of Senate votes.
More specifically, low-information McConnell is seemingly clueless that the corrupt, post-17th Amendment ratification Senate should have vetoed the Obamacare bill. This is because, regardless what lawless Obama’s activist justices want everybody to think about Obamacare, it remains that the states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to regulate, tax and spend in the name of INTRAstate healthcare.
“Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States.” —Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
”State inspection laws, health laws, and laws for regulating the internal commerce of a State, and those which respect turnpike roads, ferries, &c. are not within the power granted to Congress [emphases added].” —Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
”From the accepted doctrine that the United States is a government of delegated powers, it follows that those not expressly granted, or reasonably to be implied from such as are conferred, are reserved to the states, or to the people. To forestall any suggestion to the contrary, the Tenth Amendment was adopted. The same proposition, otherwise stated, is that powers not granted are prohibited [emphasis added].” —United States v. Butler, 1936.
Another reason why it has to be repeal, not repeal and replace.
Republicans might finally have someone who can show them how to be real leaders. That is Trump, not McConnell.
If the GOP ‘leaders’ start balking, they should be put out to pasture.
Paul Ryan is not out. He protected his members, and he will remain Speaker. Ryan is not only respected, he is well-liked.
There seems to be little understanding of the dynamics of leadership elections in both chambers. It takes a certain style of person, with legislative tactician expertise, leadership gifts, and a willingness to forego policy for strategy and fundraising.
McConnell will remain and Ryan will remain.
And they will move promptly on an Obamacare repeal bill. Part of it may get dismantled through the budget reconciliation process, which is not subject to a filibuster rule. There are many tactical decisions.
To those of you unaware, the GOP House and Senate sent Obama an Obamacare repeal bill in 2015, which he promptly vetoed. Now we will have a president who will sign the bill.
trump HAS to take RYNO a out. He has to send the message that disloyalty does not pay in a Trump Administration.
Ryan was selected over the misgivings of the more conservative block of the GOP caucus. In the past year he has done nothing to put they misgivings to rest, so they could keep Ryan from being re-elected simply by not voting for him and denying him a majority vote.
NOT repeal and replace, just repeal. Then we can negotiate without being under the gun. And if the democrats filibuster, then grant nationwide waivers. They have to repeal before we will even talk about new legislation, and we’ll draw the teeth from the current terrible law.
Repeal the individual mandate, the employer mandate and end the subsidy to the federal exchange. Let nature take its course.
I haven’t seen specifics for Trumpcare. But if it is possible to work Trumpcare by simply getting rid of stumbling-block federal regulations that the feds cannot justify under the Commerce Clause (1.8.3) then lets try that.
Otherwise, Trump is going to find out from us patriots that he first needs to successfully lead the states to ratify an appropriate amendment to the Constitution, as Obama should have done with Obamacare, before establishing TrumpCare.
The central feature of the Trump plan is to remove the restriction on buying insurance from out-of-state companies that are not approved by the state insurance commissioners. A clear violation of the 10th Amendment.
The thorny part is dealing with pre-existing conditions. The old “state pools” are a bad idea.
