McConnell: Oh Yeah, We're Going To Move To Repeal Obamacare
Townhall ^ | 11/9/16 | Matt Vespa

Senate Republicans, flush with victory and defying the odds, have maintained their majority in the upper chamber and vowed to move quickly on repealing Obamacare. Senate Majority Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said, “It's pretty high on our agenda as you know. I would be shocked if we didn't move forward and keep our commitment to the American people."

President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to repeal President Obama’s signature domestic achievement. McConnell did not discuss whether reconciliation would be used, though the chances of that are likely since the GOP majority is slim. And there is virtually no chance that Senate Republicans will be able to cobble together nine Democrats to reach 60 votes for cloture. Still, make no mistake, Trump and Congressional Republicans have signaled that Obamacare repeal is on the table. Yet, as with most bills, a lot of cost analysis, meetings, and the formulation of a replacement piece of legislation could take some time

This is and has always been a state issue, not a federal issue.

That the Feds can address accordingly.

Assume the real issue in getting the votes in the Senate has more to do with McConnell than anything else. Need a Trump clone to lead the Senate, not a squishy old bureaucrat.

It wouldn't make a difference. There is no way the Republicans could get 9 independents and Democrats to end a veto no matter who is the Senate leader. Reconciliation is the only way a repeal would make it through. And only if they really want to repeal it.

Maybe some dem senators will wise up and cross party lines if they want to hold on to their seats in two years.

Watch Joe Manchin. That's a very hot rumor in these parts.

Hopefully Republicans are able to show how horrible it is, and then show how much better their plan is.

We're talking about repeal. Forget about replace.

Health care insurance prices have increased dramatically. If Republicans can make it clear that Obamacare is at fault, and then are able to put into place something that brings prices back down 50%, that will be a win.

How can they guarantee something like that?

Yeah who needs that 10th Amendment anyway right?

It has yet to be addressed in ANY of the Federal Circuit Court rulings of late...

IIRC the Supreme Court ruled 0bamacare is a tax, therefore it can be repealed with 51 votes in the Senate in a reconciliation vote.

What McConnell and the other politicians who have run the show cannot understand is that a businessman can see possibilities, when political hacks only see obstacles.

When Trump brings in doers and innovators, not limited by artificial rules and self-promoting excuses, progress in the private sector will be possible.

McConnell said the same thing in 2012. President Trump (sounds good donut) needs to hold Mitch to his word this time.

Repeal the ACA but eliminate the prohibition on crossing State lines WRT insurance. This will allow natural competition and give the results needed.

Totally agree, increased competition drives prices down. I'd add prevent health care companies from insuring pre-existing conditions. Charge a higher premium, create a higher risk pool (or something else..) but preventing people from getting healthcare due to pre-existing conditions is just stupid.

Grow the pool of insured through increased competition and reduced cost (as you suggested) and the rest should naturally take care of itself, IMO.
