The government, delivering the last major snapshot of the economy before Election Day, reported on Friday that employers added 161,000 workers in October, a performance that suggests a healthy outlook for the months ahead.
The official unemployment rate dropped to 4.9 percent.
Average hourly earnings rose 2.8 percent year over year, a strong showing.
For the presidential campaign, the latest employment report serves as a Rorschach test allowing each side to offer its own distinctive narrative of the economys performance and prospects.
Both sides will be able to take something in that report, to assess blame or take credit for, Vincent Reinhart, chief economist at Standish Mellon, said before its release.

The big question is: will the NYT continue this fraudulent employment reporting system after Trunp is elected.
After Jan 20, 2017, they’ll suddenly discover all sorts of social and economic pathologies.
Isn’t is amazing how the New York Crimes manages to constantly prove the wisdom of my tagline?
It makes me proud, but sad at the same time.
Or...
Al Gore is on the verge of arresting Climate Change.
See my tagline...
By the end of Hillary’s term, the unemployed will be so depressed that all of them will have stopped looking for work and unemployment will be at zero percent.
And on that new the DOW was up 748 points.
Anyone that has been paying attention will recognize that for the last several years first quarter and second quarter numbers are lousy, third-quarter is OK, and fourth-quarter is back to lousy. All of which add up to a sub 2% GDP growth.
This has been timed for the election for a long time now. It was to be the thing that boosted Clinton into office. Oops, they didn’t count on having a Republican candidate that actually fights back.
Most of that number was part-time jobs for women. That is a miserable jobs number for men and those wanting full time employment. Obamacare is to blame.
With all these jobs available the 25% increase in Obamacare should be no problem
Of course not. They will make it look even worse. And the best part...they will have all of the corrupt govt. agencies fudging numbers for them.
HEADLINE WILL BE: TRUMP ECONOMY WORST IN 150 YEARS!!
Yes - the chart you posted tells the real story.
So does this:
Unemployment Rate for October 2016 is 23.0%

Real inflation rate is 5*%

Again, more sad numbers touted as prosperity.
The usual pre-election faked democrat stats.
I thought 230,000 was the break even number, just sayin’.
P.S. see tagline
Only if you call 17 year old students and geriatric retirees "able to work".
The chart is correct, but my figure was not. The actual labor participation rate was 62.8%, not 68.6%. My first figure was just for non-disabled persons and not seasonally adjusted.
I have to laugh. If GW Bush Labor Department ever reported less then 250,000 in a month these same “Journalists” were ranting and raving about how we were showing signs of a “slowing economy”.
Getting ready with PT help for Black Friday, which has already started, and CHRISTmas. BOYCOTT anti CHRISTmas stores. If they can’t put up Merry Christmas, skip them.
You knew it was coming! Bullsh*t!
