According to the New Yorker’s Jane Mayer and the Washington Post, F.B.I. Director James Comey acted on his own when he, 11 days before the election, disclosed on Friday that new emails had been discovered which may or may not be relevant to the agency’s closed investigation of Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while Secretary of State. Comey, by informing Congress of the evidence, apparently disregarded the opinions of Attorney General Loretta Lynch and Justice Department officials, who had reminded him of the department’s policy of not commenting on ongoing investigations nor acting in such a way as could influence an upcoming election.
Comey apparently understood we was violating these guidelines, but felt he was obligated to do so because he had promised members of Congress he would inform them of any further developments related to Clinton’s email server misuse, as well as because of the proximity of the impending election. In a letter he sent to F.B.I. employees after alerting Congress of the new evidence, Comey acknowledged that it was unprecedented for him to inform Congress of an incomplete investigation, but explained that:
"I feel an obligation to do so given that I testified repeatedly in recent months that our investigation was completed. I also think it would be misleading to the American people were we not to supplement the record. At the same time, however, given that we don’t know the significance of this newly discovered collection of emails, I don’t want to create a misleading impression. In trying to strike that balance, in a brief letter and in the middle of an election season, there is significant risk of being misunderstood, but I wanted you to hear directly from me about it."

I read some DOJ policy that covers these such things was just made since obama’s election.
Ridiculous to have “policy” to hold info, delay investigations and such and they think THEY are not influencing elections by it.
Hillary, in response to your heartfelt request for a beautiful nonextradition country, I might recommend Equador. If not Equador itself, perhaps one of their scenic embassies. I would caution you that if you do this, you will want to be aware of potential drone strikes. Other than that, its a good option for you. Hope this helps.

Let’s see; when Nixon fired Archibald Cox and Eliot Richardson (AG) it was called the “Saturday Night Massacre”. We have two Saturdays during which the current Administration can repeat the act by firing Comey (remember, history repeats itself, the first time as tragedy, the second time as farce; like everything else with the Clintons and their media spokesmen, this time would be the farce).
Only because America had a news media back then.
He could be righting a wrong.

Comey may be a duplicitous little pr*ck, but Loretta Lynch is an affirmative action post turtle. Comey’s actions in this drama will be debated endlessly; but Lynch is acting on orders.
Good. I believe he proceeded to ease his scorching conscience.
I don’t see how doing this would put a stop to any damaging Wikileaks coming out. I’m hearing that Comey did this just because he knew what was coming and wanted to thwart it, but I don’t see how it makes a difference.
If a law was broken, Comey is under no obligation to follow DOJ policy. It’s unenforceable. And any effort to remove him will stink to high heaven.
These sources are about as credible as Hillary herself.

Bill Clinton dismissed William Sessions halfway through his term on charges that Sessions misused official perks; among other things Sessions used FBI aircraft for personal trips.
