Attorney General told FBI director James Comey NOT to send letter to Congress about bureau reopening the investigation into Hillary's emails because it could influence the election outcome

Attorney General Loretta Lynch advised Comey against sending a letter to Congress about the FBI's reopened investigation into Clinton's emails She argued to Comey that he should follow the Justice Department's practice of not taking actions that could influence the election Attorney General Loretta Lynch advised and objected against FBI Director James Comey's move to send a letter to Congress to inform them about the reopening of the investigation into Hillary Clinton's private email server.

Lynch argued to Comey that he should follow the Justice Department's practice of not taking actions that could influence the outcome of a presidential election, The New Yorker reported on Saturday.

Comey broke from Lynch, who objected to the move along with the Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates, and independently sent the letter to Congress on Friday, dropping the bombshell about the restarted investigation based on newly discovered emails, rocking Clinton's campaign.

Comey's supporters argue that he had to break away from Lynch and act independently on the issue due to her compromising herself when she had an impromptu visit with former president Bill Clinton late into the investigation earlier this year. Comey broke away and sent a memo to bureau staffers explaining his decision to notify Congress He wrote that the FBI would not 'ordinarily' inform Congress about its ongoing investigations But said he noted he felt an 'obligation to' given that he testified repeatedly in recent months that bureau's investigation was completed On Friday, he sent a letter to eight Republican lawmakers regarding the reopened investigation - rocking Clinton's campaign

Comey can not summon a grand jury. Federal prosecutors do that.

Here’s Andrew McCarthy on the subject:

http://www.nationalreview.com/article/430211/hillary-clinton-email-fbi-department-justice-obama

...The FBI does not have authority even to issue subpoenas, let alone to charge someone with a crime. Only federal prosecutors may issue subpoenas, on the lawful authority of the grand jury. Only prosecutors are empowered to present evidence or propose charges to the grand jury. And the Constitution vests only the grand jury with authority to indict — the formal accusation of a crime. In our system, the FBI can do none of these things.

No Justice Department, no grand jury. No grand jury, no case — period. As a technical matter, no matter how extensively the FBI pokes around on its own, no one can be a subject of a real investigation — i.e., one that can lead to criminal charges — unless and until there is a grand jury. That does not happen until the Justice Department hops on board...

... Comey made the point that she has no credibility to interfere in this investigation.

Did he actually say something to that effect, or just that it is painfully obvious? Unfortunately, it isn't, to a whole lot of people out there.

nice comment! & I’ll add that Obama can’t fire Preet Bharara... imho this one part of the reason Comey sent the letter.... I’ll bet ya’ Bharaa said to Comey “if you don’t I will”.

who is Preet Bharara?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preet_Bharara

Anthony Weiners case came to office -but it was only published that Child Services was investigating there wasn’t much about anything else that was published and it’s been quiet for some time now.

Any investigation into Weiner would have included taking all electronic ,et al devices from the home and surrendering them to the authorities INCLUDING anything that even remotely belonged to his wife, too.

I seriously doubt she’d get a sympathy vote.

She has been thoroughly outed as a reckless individual lacking even basic managerial skills.

He didn’t comment publicly. He sent notice of a change in the status of the investigation to elected officials in Congress, as he had promised. They then released his notice to the public.

yes sir exactamundo and im sure he knew they would...

We don’t know how damaging the emails are but the investigation itself is pretty important to voters decisions. If it was withheld and came out a day after a close election, which this looks to be, then the American people would have been cheated by the government. Theres no other way to look at it. Holder put that policy out with a Dem in the WH. It wasn’t a wise or impartial decision.

The government should run on schedule as it needs to, even close to an election.

The dems never obeyed that rule, guess it is just used in a political fashion. Who’dthunkit?

When the majority of people in polls have said that she should have been charged, and have for months, then there is no sympathy to be had.

Congress to AG Lynch: ‘Outrageous’ You Would ‘Essentially Plead the Fifth,’ Refuse Answers on Iran Ransom Payment

Attorney General Loretta Lynch has formally refused to answer questions from Congress about the Obama Administration’s huge cash payments to Iran. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-KS) described Lynch’s response as “unacceptable,” and said she has chosen to “essentially plead the Fifth.”
