On Wednesday afternoon this week I made the trek into town, and scratched in the little circle next to next to the names Donald Trump and Mike Pence. It made me a bit queasy, honestly, but so did scratching in the circle next to the name of establishment RINO Richard Burr for Senate, as well as scratching off next to the name of the incoherent incumbent Walter Jones for Congress.
One vote for a New York liberal, one for a mini-McConnell, and one for a misanthrope loon who has managed to be loathed by both the House Freedom Caucus as well as by the office of Speaker John Boehner (and now Speaker Paul Ryan, too, no doubt).
Can I have some tums now?
Frankly, my conscience took a pounding in the booth, but the civic exercise of voting is not about my conscience, or gastrointestinal health, or anything else related to me personally. At the risk of sounding clichéd, it's about the country, and the Court, checks and balances, and so much more. I'm not in any way responsible for the choices I was given -- as I opposed all three of these people in the primaries -- and the primary season was the last time that my conscience was anywhere close to being on the ballot.
I think we should talk more about elections in these terms frankly. We rarely do.

I’ve wondered in the past if not voting for any candidate for any given position on my ballot (leaving blank) could be getting filled in later by someone in authority.
Guess I’d better vote for someone for every office on the ballot.
C. Edmund Wright? Is this jackass still around?
Jumped to a Phishing site
Well isn’t he holier than thou. I need Tums reading this screed!
His articles shouldn’t even be allowed on here.
And not one WORD in this screed about Trump’s stance on abortion, immigration, foreign wars, and his outreach to African-Americans. Not one.
Just a back-handed slap at the ONE guy who stands between We The People and Marxist tyranny by a so-called “principled conservative.
The writer is nothing more than a male version of Dana PeRino.
Perhaps some Vagisil would help with the discomfort?
C. Edmund Wrong gets it wrong again! The need for ever increasing corporate profits caused the auto industry demise in Detroit. It's called global labor arbitrage
The ultra liberal local government didn't off shore Detroit's wealth creation engine. Those shysters are the secondary infection and are irrelevant to the discussion of Detroit's economic demise
Fortunately, he hasn't been unzotted yet.
That’s a MAGA-nificent story!!!.
Here is what I absolutely HATE. All these holier than thou people who call Trump a misanthrope and have their panties in a knot, but look at Hillary as a viable option. You know, the same Clinton crime syndicate who rape women, who likely engaged in sexual activities with minor girls, who engaged in sexual with interns while in office, who sought to destroy women whom they called “bimbos”, and somehow they need to hold their nose and vote for Trump. Absolutely incredible, and in my opinion, this demonstrates the weak among us who so easily succumb to the deceit of the left wing propaganda. Those who must go with the flow to maintain the acceptance of others.
C. Edmund Wright
“This account opus’d out via profane personal attacks against fellow FReepers and profanity laced freepmail. Worst case of suicide by mod we’ve ever seen.”
Conscience? BWAHAHAHA!
I glad C. did the right thing, but he can still kiss my dago ass, the pompous prick.
Hillary wants to destroy American Sovereignty, the
Constitution, Freedom, Democracy, & Capitalism.
Hillary will use executive action and the courts
to implement her agenda.
Hillary will deploy federal government agencies
and forces of the to destroy her enemies
and will be aided by the liberal media.
LOL!
Did any of you numskulls even read the op-ed? C. Edmund Wright is not the subject of the op-ed. The subject is about the country and the Court, checks and balances. This is why he is voting for Trump as will I. He also sees the importance of keeping the majority of Congress in our side. You refuse to even think about that if we lose the majority that we lose it all, no matter who becomes president.
