North Carolina Early Voting Results by County & Polling Hours 2016

Before we examine the early voting numbers this year, let’s take a look back at 2012 and see how the early voting results compared to the actual outcome. Four years ago, Democrats seemed to hold a substantial lead in North Carolina, with the numbers on November 4th showing Barack Obama with a clear advantage over Mitt Romney:

2012: Overall, an estimated 1,455,277 votes have been cast for President Obama and an estimated 1,286,823 votes have been cast for Mitt Romney, giving Obama an estimated 168,455 vote margin, or a 53.1%-46.9% lead, with roughly 59.6% of the vote in (assuming a final turnout of 4,601,461 "accepted" ballots).

But this was an example where the early numbers ended up being misleading, as Mitt Romney went on to win North Carolina by two percentage points.

This is to say that while these early voting results can often be quite telling, and while many times they predict the winner of a state, they should not be treated as gospel.

Just like in 2012, at the moment, the Democrats hold a clear advantage over the Republicans in North Carolina. According to the North Carolina Board of Elections, as of October 22nd, 2.7 million Democrats have voted in North Carolina compared to 2.1 million Republicans. About 31,000 Libertarians have voted, and another two million people have voted who are not affiliated with any party.

I’ve seen 0 Hillary signs in S Charlotte where I live (well just over the border in SC plus in NC). I saw 1 Hillary sign in Greensboro. Surprisingly few Trump signs too but still probably seen 100+ Trump signs. Bumper stickers are almost non-existance this year. Few bernie ones.

Our counties are pretty big. The one I live in (Davidson) is 567 square miles. It’s 552 miles from the western tip of the state to the northeast tip.

Yup - although CLT is more conservative than RDU. I live just over the NC/SC border and its heavy conservative here.

i’m originally from the Pittsburgh area, (southern Butler County). i go to the Franklin/Seneca/Cranberry area as often as i can —missed Applefest this year.

Next fall we’re hoping to be able to take the train trip from Titusville to Oil Creek State Park.

Have to say though, it’s pretty nice here too. We live about eight miles north of the battlefield. Lots of woods.

i once was listening to a real estate programme on the radio as i was driving somewhere. They were talking about average time of home ownership. It turns out that the national average is four years...while in Western PA the average is 16 years...nobody who lives there wants to leave, and those who had to are war gaming about how they’re going to get back there.

I’m in the NE corner, near Virginia Beach, and there are very few Hillary signs in this county. Nothing but Trump signs. Pretty sure a huge number of the Democrat votes in NC will go with Trump. Just a hunch since I’ve heard so many D’s saying they were voting Trump.

No one can complete with LA county CA. No one.

It’s 1/3 the size of the state of NC with the same population.

These old fashioned electronic voting machines with their need to be calibrated to the image of the ballot, are an open invitation to mischief (ah sure, I’ll just calibrate presses of the Republican to register as Democrat).

I sympathize - this has been the way of Republicans for fifty years - they ran away from Nixon, they ran away from Trent Lott, they’re running away from Trump - meanwhile Democrats get behind some of the worst scum on earth - viz the current candidate for president on their ticket - and find any excuse, any pretense to support him or her to win - Republicans aren’t a party - they’re a gaggle of egoists and ‘fraidy-cats......

Humanity itself is a gaggle of egotists. Democrats have just come up with a more cunning strategy to gratify it.

WTF? North Carolina has 100 Counties? I guess they are each about as big as a phone booth.

If you look at a US map with counties delineated, they're no smaller in NC than in most other states east of the Mississippi. As the colony and then state grew, original counties were divided with a courthouse town created close to the geographic center, for the convenience and protection of the county residents. My family has been in the same area where I grew up since the early 1750's. It's been five different counties over that time. Started out as Anson County, then Rowan, then Surry, then Stokes, then Forsyth.

I understand that! Being from the Far West, it’s just very different than it is out here. The most extreme example is probably my wife’s home state of Nevada which has only 16 counties, and with the exception of Washoe (Reno) and Clark ( Las Vegas) there are nearly no people in any one of them. I just returned from “rescuing” our youngest daughter from “Burning Man.” Gerlach, Nevada is the “Gateway To the Blackrock Desert,” population 206. The Burning Man encampment out on the dry lake was 70,000, all of whom had to drive 25 mph through Gerlach coming and going.

Ridiculous numbers? [ I was ready to post then went out - looks like I'm not the only one wondering about these numbers ...]

"Just like in 2012, at the moment, the Democrats hold a clear advantage over the Republicans in North Carolina. According to the North Carolina Board of Elections, as of October 22nd, 2.7 million Democrats have voted in North Carolina compared to 2.1 million Republicans. About 31,000 Libertarians have voted, and another two million people have voted who are not affiliated with any party."

Wiki says NC has a total 10 million population. Assuming 3 days from 10/22 added say 200,000 and they've got 70% of the entire state already having voted.

Nationally, a 2012 PEW study has 43% never registered or lapsed (2008) plus they must have 10% less than 18 - non-voters. In 2012 (Obama/Romney) the total vote, per this article, was 4.6 million. Almost three million more voters have already voted?

Any thoughts?

Actually nevermind - my only thought is this is a DEM article to push for DEM votes by making the race look close and there are more registered DEMS in NC ... glad that others picked up on the strange numbers. Kudos.]

Us Yankees are the highest number of NC immigrants. Why do you think they call CARY (Containment Area for Relocated Yankees)

Replace “voted” with “registered” and it might make more sense.
