Someone successfully shut down many websites Friday, attacking a crucial part of the internet that has been made more vulnerable due to an Obama administration decision to surrender American control, according to experts.
Websites like Twitter, Spotify, Reddit and many others were not working for a large portion of U.S. citizens Friday, after unknown hackers breached the servers of Dyn, a major domain name system (DNS) host. Essentially the “yellow pages” of online addresses, DNS is the technical network that converts web address names into numbers.
“We began monitoring and mitigating a DDoS attack against our Dyn Managed DNS infrastructure. Some customers may experience increased DNS query latency and delayed zone propagation during this time,” Dyn announced in a published update.
The cyber-crime, which was likely conducted by a syndicate, issued a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, which renders certain networks and websites inaccessible to users. The hacker(s) bombarded part of the internet’s infrastructure by directing several devices and the respective unique Internet Protocol (IP) addresses (the numerical label assigned to every device) to targeted online systems. Dyn’s DNS became inundated with so much traffic, it could no longer facilitate the navigation of the web.

I’ve had problems the past several days on and off with speed.
Any connection there or no?
The other thing to think about is how easy it would have been to avoid being taken down in this attack. First do not use DNS within a service. Some companies blamed other providers but in fact it was their fault for using names instead of IPs in a fixed architecture. Second, if a company is stupid enough to rely on DNS, do not rely on one DNS provider. Third, if a company did rely on DNS and had a backup DNS provider, do not wait 2 hours to switch over to the backup.
Now that this attack is history those providers that learned something for it will be easily able to thwart the next one.
This was the goal all along. Some central authority controls it now. Who is the question though we can guess.

I am still extremely frustrated over the Internet Transfer—so many ramifications, none of them good...
I just have to point out...Many said, “The ICANN transfer was much hype about nothing, “Talked to a relative in computing that said ‘it is no big deal’,” “Internet is nothing but porn so good riddance,” and then on October 1, said, “See the internet is still here~no problem” or my favorite “We will build a better one,” and so on and so on...
Too many folks ignored the warnings, and you know who you are...
Note: It has been less than one month since the “giveaway,” and the outages last week have been linked to the Internet giveaway...this article is not the first to do so BTW.
Now there are threads posted on how to keep in touch on FR (and in general), and what to do if the internet goes out...They are a good idea in general, but wouldn’t it have been better to mobilize to keep our internet safe?
I don’t know if anything can be done to “get it back,” but we sure should try after the election regardless of the outcome...
As we have seen the media is nothing but lying misleading propaganda, and if we don’t have the internet to share TRUTHFUL INFORMATION, we are in deep trouble going forward.
To those of you who did all that you could, I thank you from bottom of my heart as do the others who tried to stop this. Now I ask you to think...is there anything that we can do now? Can we do more?

The people who “control” it now are most likely the same type of faceless, unelected professional, nanny-state bureaucrats exactly like the ones who control and run the European Union.

Sorry, there are dozens of articles that provide much more information and I suggest you do a little reading before saying it is a great big sticky ball of crap...
Being a member of FR, certainly you should no better that the mere fact that Obama wanted so much to give it away means loss of freedom in one way or another.
