Keep your windshield filthy and it can’t stick.

Driver to Insurance company: My windshield needs to be replaced.

Insurance Company rep: Why? What happened?

Driver: A big yellow rock broke it.

Insurance Company rep: Okay, does that impair your driving?

Driver: Yes, it does, very much so.

Insurance Company rep: Well, we’ll have to send someone right over, sir.................

The Barnacle — an opaque piece of plastic held in place by two suction cups and 750 pounds of force — makes it nearly impossible for a driver to drive away, even if they think they can cleverly stick their head out of the window.

Held in place with suction cups. Which means that a small drill which makes a hole in the plastic (but hopefully not hitting the glass of the windshield), thus allowing air in and breaking the suction, will make it un-stick.

“If you ever actually try to drive that way, it’s physically very difficult,” Dougherty said.

And dangerous. Lawyers will have a field day.

Thin feeler gauge and a can of WD40 will solve that!

Terrific.... looks like a job for at least a three person crew under union rules, two jackers and a supervisor and maybe a flagman or two. There's your jobs program.

In Minnesota, we’ve all driven much blinder after snowstorms.

This is great! Would love to see some sanctimonious yuppie tooling down the street in the Beemer with head out the window and alarm blaring away.

The most epic “boot” thread EVAH!

Guy gets his Audi booted in his driveway, so he puts it on wheel dollies and puts it in the garage and tells them they can have their boot now or when he is done restoring the car.

How many tickets do they have to issue to recoup the costs?

It’s all about the Benjamins.

I’m pretty sure a butter knife would be the proper tool to get this off. A hacksaw blade would be even better.

A cordless drill will make quick work of that.

So... Are meter maids going to now be washing all windows to ensure proper suction? I’d love to see this on my car. We live in volcano country. Lots of cinder and sandblasted windshields.

I find all these ideas about how to get around and defeat this technology interesting. What about just paying attention to where and when to park and not get into the situation of having one of these things attached to your car in the first place........that too difficult? or I guess that would take all the fun out of the thread I guess. : )
