There is another major announcement I am going to make today as part of our pledge to drain the swamp in Washington. If I am elected President, I will push for a Constitutional Amendment to impose term limits on all members of Congress.
Decades of failure in Washington, and decades of special interest dealing, must come to an end. We have to break the cycle of corruption, and we have to give new voices a chance to go into government service. The time for Congressional term limits has arrived.
...
“The Trump team needs to change this headline immediately before its used to kill him in toniites debate.”
The misleading headline is from ‘The Donald’ PAC, not Team Trump, or his campaign site. Trump’s position paper calls for a constitutional amendment.
The source of the headline is a Trump PAC, called, 'The Donald'. I haven't checked his campaign website, but I do know that this particular article came from The Donald PAC.
I would not have voted to impeach Andrew Johnson, since that Tenure of Office Act was dubious to begin with and reduced the Presidency to powerless figurehead status. With that argument on “tenure”, you could conceivably claim that all Cabinet Secretaries could remain in office regardless of a change in party regime and taken even further, if you put Congress under the law, they could refuse to leave office if “voted out.”
Of course, I’ve been arguing in favor of a return to the spoils system to eliminate the armies of leftist bureaucrats, get rid of their public unions and all the lifetime bennies that are bleeding the treasury dry. And, as well, the elimination of enfranchisement for all those non-military/non-emergency government workers for the duration of their employment. That was the entire purpose for why DC residents, presumably the bulk of whom would be working for the government or doing business with those who work for it, were not supposed to have a vote in the first place.
The original document had term limits included.
Tagline change.
You are right! At least we KNOW the miscreants today. Term limits would greatly strengthen the hand of (1) the lobbyists (who are not term limited) and (2) the Federal bureaucrats. Both of these groups are already permanent fixtures in Washington.
The real problem is the meddling which occurs when those in Washington overstep their warrant and attempt to regulate things which should be either unregulated or left up to the states. There is money and influence peddling to be had by controlling the meddling.
What do you have against HOR’s?
Impose?
“...So evidently hes been giving the subject a lot of thought....”
If he ever had an original thought, it would die of loneliness.
Where?
There has been no ethics since they ignored the 10th amendment. It would be a lot easier to just clean them out every few years.
As a young teen, a cereal company, Post?, sent me a copy of the original document of the Bill of Rights. There are 10 ratified final amendments. The original had 12 proposed BofR amendments.
Amendment 12 was term limits. But 11 & 12 were not ratified. That is as I recall it. No time to check online.
It’s amazing a food company would send freedom amendments to young customers. Today, most big business HATES liberty for people.
Economist Freidman alluded that only reducing government size works. As long as govt keeps increasing, you are screwed.
Trump’s lower tax plan is the solution.
