San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick believes that the flag of the United States is nothing more than simply a piece of cloth.
"At the end of the day the flag is just a piece of cloth and I am not going to value a piece of cloth over people's lives. That's just not something I can do, it's not something I feel morally right doing and my character won't allow me to do that," Kaepernick told reporters.

See how they do it? A segment of the Progressives will claim that a flag is a symbol, so you can’t fly the Confederate flag. A different segment of the Progressives will claim that a flag is not a symbol, so they can show disrespect to the US flag.
In the Progressive ideology, both can co-exist because they both “train our minds” to understand that nations (whether it is the CSA or the USA) are the problem and we need a borderless world without flags. Just big red banners proclaiming communism as our god.

You have to understand that the Left has dominated the entire education system for decades.
American history is not only not taught, but young people now are "educated" that America is the nexus of racism, slavery, and evil in the universe.
This stuff is pounded into their heads all through their youth and formative years.
