As the US officially enters the Yemen military campaign, the UK appears ready and willing to precipitate a catalytic event from which there is no going back. With relations between Russia and the West at post-Cold War lows and deteriorating fast, Royal Air Force (RAF) pilots have been given the go-ahead to shoot down Russian military jets when flying missions over Syria and Iraq, if they are endangered by them.

Oh my God! How can anyone be so stupid? Syria is a bust. Walk away from it. It D@mn sure isn't worth starting a War with Russia over it.
Gunsmoke began as a 30 minute program; it didn’t “expand” to the hour-long format until 1962, and remained at that length until it left the airwaves in 1975.
Many of the early black-and-white episodes were simply remakes of the radio series, with identical plots and dialogue. If you watch the credits from some of the 30 minute shows, you’ll see they were filmed by the “Arness Production Company.” When Gunsmoke became a hit, CBS gave Jim Arness a production deal, which he retained until the show expanded to one hour. At that point, CBS bought Arness out as a producer and he became an instant millionaire.
Both the TV and radio versions are among my all-time favorites. It’s an eternal debate among fans of both series, but I think the radio series was even better than the TV program. Bill Conrad was absolutely superb, and so were Parley Baer, Howard McNear and Georgia Ellis. Of course, I don’t think Conrad would have worked as Matt Dillon on TV, and when they decided to go in a different direction, the rest of the radio cast lost their opportunity to join the television version as well.
Doc will perform abortions, Chester will be gay (fitting, since Dennis Weaver is a flaming liberal), Festus will be an illegal immigrant and Newly will be a black guy..........
What a movie!
I saw on wikipedia that there was a similar incident during the Cuban missile crisis that almost started WW3:
Is the PM out of her mind? During the height of the Cold War orders like this were rare and issued only in the face of real threats to national security or interest. How the hell does who rules Syria meet either?
One-time FR favorites Tom Cotton and John Bolton (as well as Ben Carson, Carly Fiorina, and many others) are all-in for war with Russia over Syria. They claim open confrontation could be ‘limited’, but they aren’t stupid. They do, however, think WE are.
Is Syrian civil war so vital to us that we risk confrontation with Russian aircraft? Especially since the still recognized government of Syria invited them in and has demanded that we leave their territory. Assad is a butcher but he is the leader of a sovereign state.
I was hoping to get back to England before it became a smoldering, radioactive crater.
There are somethings worth drawing a line in the sand for and fighting. But is Syria tearing itself apart worth a nuclear attack on the US? Note I don’t say nuclear exchange because I believe if the Russians hit us with nukes PussNChief would not respond.
Is Syria something that is in our national interest in getting involved in? The Russians hate weakness and we have projected it for 8 yrs. They respect strength but have to believe if they push we will push back. They don’t believe we will. We are living in very dangerous times. Trouble is if Hillary is elected this will only get worse.
“No way is that a good thing.”
Well, it’s a good thing if you are a British pilot and some MiGs come gunning for you.
Marital Law pet peeve sorry
“Is Syrian civil war so vital to us...”
No, it’s not vital to us at all. It’s only vital to the Sunni jihadists, and their stooges, who unfortunately include Obama.
The Saudis and Gulf states want Assad out so they can build a pipeline to Europe.
Putin does not want that pipeline built because he controls 90% of the gas supply to Europe.
The Russians and Syrians have a longstanding alliance, going back to the Soviet Union days and Assad’s father’s regime.
We have no business trying to overthrow Assad, except to do the bidding of the Saudis.
Be wary of anyone advocating involvement in Syria, like McCain, Graham and Rubio, they are likely on the payroll of the Saudis.
Pardon me if I have posted to this thread the same thing I posted on another.
Yo PM and MP, this is not a good idea.
And Andrew Mitchell is a special kind of stupid.

It does seem that way...
I wonder how much the potentates in the Middle East paid Hillary, Bill, 'the Foundation', AND OUR CHEAP LABOR EXPRESS MILITARY CONTRACTORS to fight their wars for them - with OUR BLOOD and OUR TREASURE...
Seems big money has changed hands... bloody hands - - corrupt hands - hands stirring the pot and rummaging in our pockets.
Here’s an idea, let Russia handle it. Pull all military personnel and assets out of Syria and Iraq, and let Putin do his thing.
Sure, the FSA, “rebels,” ISIS, al-Quada, etc will be smoked, but that is the only way.
Assad and Persia will still be there, but you won’t start WWIII.

Bill Clinton once said that he was disappointed that he never had the opportunity to be a war president. )I guess Kosovo didn't count.)
Clinton said that because war presidents like Lincoln and FDR are usually rated higher than non-war presidents.
Maybe the PM is thinking the same way. Maybe she wants to be the next Churchill.
Two-time Medal of Honor winner Marine General Smedley Butler:
"War is a racket. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives."
Butler never faced Hitler. But this gives you an idea of how upside-down this world is. I am now comfortable quoting an anti-establishment isolationist like Gen. Butler.
What a co-inky-dink! This exact story was also going around almost exactly one year ago!
