Donald Trump might not have been his first choice, but former House Speaker John Boehner says he will be voting for the Republican presidential nominee come November.

“He is not a conservative. He’s barely a Republican,” Boehner said in an interview with Vice News, previewed Tuesday. “He kind of became a Republican in order to run.”

Although Boehner contends that Trump lacks sufficient Republican bonafides, the former Ohio congressman said Trump’s ideas are more appealing to him than those of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton....

Yep. Whoever thought the GOP would dredge up someone so terrible that we would long for the days of Boehner?

Republicans need to start thinking beyond Donald Trump He may be the quickest path to get to where they want to be.

My thoughts exactly. And, for the record, Boehner has always supported Trump. Boehner is the one who was instrumental in inviting Bibi to address Congress. He sure had his faults, but, I’ll give him his kudos on this.

A vote is a vote.

Trump has an enthusiastic base. This includes many Democrats, independents and people who have never voted before. Trump needs as many Republicans as possible to stick with him. We can’t win by losing “old” votes as we pick up “new” votes.

Trump has moved to Republican positions on many issues. It’s his rhetoric and past life style that puts off the goody two shoes. Yet, evangelical leaders are backing Trump. Why? Because they know that people aren’t perfect. They don’t judge people based on having a gruff, New York attitude, or a being a cigarette-smoking, tattooed, non-married but pregnant teenage girl. Christ came to redeem, not to condemn.

And the evangelical leaders know that the other side is out to destroy Christianity or transform it into warmed-over socialism. Christianity can thrive in a capitalist environment. It will revert to the idolatry of pre-Reform Romanism if part of a revived Church-State. (I apologize if talking about the true conflict of our time is scary.)

So, let us welcome John Beohner’s vote. You can disavow Trump’s boorish behavior of ten years ago, and you can admit that he sometimes speaks extemporaneously that he later re-states. Let’s give the moderates in the party the space they need to vote for Trump. We will win by adding new voters this fall. We won’t win if we merely replacing old votes with new votes.

>>He is not a conservative. He’s barely a Republican

This applies to Boehner far more than it applies to Trump. Boehner had a chance to stand up to 0vomit and instead he rolled over and handed him everything he wanted.

Boehner is a fool who floats with the wind. He is an intellectual lightweight, but just barely smart enough to see which way the wind is blowing. He hopes that by sucking up to Trump he might be able to save his political butt.

Didn’t he invite the Israeli PM, Mr. Netanyahu to speak in front of Congress? People were praising him up and down on here and elsewhere for that! He did it in defiance of Obama too, and never backed down, as well; I think some people forget that, don’t they?

True, but Donald himself is 70, isn’t he? I think Gov. Pence is over 50 too!

“He is not a conservative. He’s barely a Republican,” Boehner said....

and he could have been talking about so many people.

I can’t stand John Boehner.

He could have just voted for Trump and said he didn’t want to inject himself into politics, blah-blah...

So, he gets credit for saying out loud, publicly, he’s voting Trump.
