A Facebook Live video of the protest shows a pickup truck revving its engine in front of the crowd that had spilled onto the street in Reno's downtown. Several protesters confronted the driver and the passenger before the truck drives through the crowd, tires squealing, at about 6:40 p.m. Monday.
Soto said the activists did not have a permit to protest in the street, but some had gathered in the travel lanes of Virginia Street on the main casino drag.
Soto said he couldn't comment on whether the driver or passenger felt threatened by the crowd and declined to comment on whether it was being treated as a hate crime.
"We are certainly looking into all aspects of the information that comes forward," Soto told reporters.

If someone reached in, or was breaking a window, the driver would have a better defense.
yup...and notice a guy purposely walks from the side directly in front of the truck with a sign to block the truck from moving...
They poked a long stick in through the open window, in addition to threatening those in the vehicle with bodily harm.

To have a legitimate presence on one, one must have in their possession a
“encroachment permit,” which usually costs hundreds of dollars, and requires an insurance rider for the specific purpose and date.
All of these “protesters” can be fined heavily under such statutes.

I just watched the video. Wonder the protestors weren’t shot.
Rule one: Don’t be in the road.
Rule two: Stay out of the road.
Rule three: If you’re stupid enough to block the road, don’t be surprised at becoming a screaming speed bump.

Cops are taught the cruiser is a coffin. Being behind the wheel is actually a very vulnerable position when confronted by an attacker. Driving away is the only effective defense, but if someone’s in front, you have to be willing to run them over.
If anyone for any reason, obstructs a driver on a public highway, and the driver is threatened like this driver was in the video, then the driver/passengers should be able to defend their lives with what ever means are available.
Protesters that think they can go around inflicting harm and injury or manslaughter, need to consider the consequences of their actions. Where were the Cops? The Protesters that break laws need to be arrested. End of Story.
Assault, terroristic threats, attempted car jacking and attempted kidnapping. Every one of these scum, need to be charged with several felonies.
A similar confrontation locally ended with the mouthy one getting a 44 magnum round through the heart, The other “protesters” suddenly remembered they needed to be somewhere else. No charges whatsoever on the driver.
I hope I’m never in this situation.
If the ancillary reports above are accurate, I’d do the same thing, (at the very minimum).
And of course the media would spin it as a racist terrorist attack by a right wing lunatic.
